OET (OET-RV) That’s why I prefer younger women to be getting married and having children, to keep house, and to avoid all situations where others could accuse them.

OET-LVTherefore I_am_wishing the_younger women to_be_marrying, to_be_bearing_children, to_be_keeping_house, not_one opportunity to_be_giving of_insult to_the one opposing for_reason_of.

ULT Therefore, I want younger ones to marry, bear children, manage a household, give no opportunity for slander to the one opposing.

UST So, instead of the church adding young widows to the list of true widows, I prefer for younger widows to remarry and have children. These women should manage their homes well. In that way they will not give the enemy, Satan, an opportunity to accuse them of doing wrong.

BSB § So I advise the younger widows to marry, have children, and manage their households, denying the adversary occasion for slander.

BLB Therefore I want the younger ones to marry, to bear children, to manage their households, to give the one opposing no occasion on account of reproach.

AICNT Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach;

OEB Therefore I advise young widows to marry, bear children, and attend to their homes, and so avoid giving the enemy an opportunity for scandal.

WEB I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for insulting.

NET So I want younger women to marry, raise children, and manage a household, in order to give the adversary no opportunity to vilify us.

LSV I intend, therefore, younger ones to marry, to bear children, to be mistress of the house, to give no occasion to the opposer of reviling;

FBV So my best advice is that younger widows marry and have children and take care of the home. That way there's no opportunity for criticism from the Enemy.

TCNT So I advise the younger widows to marry, bear children, and manage their households, so as to give the adversary no opportunity to revile us.

T4T So I advise that instead of putting the names of younger widows on the list, they marry again, that they bear/have children, that they manage their homes well, and that they do nothing for which an enemy can say bad things about them.

LEB Therefore I want younger widows to marry, to bear children, to manage a household, to give the adversary no opportunity for reproach.

BBE So it is my desire that the younger widows may be married and have children, controlling their families, and giving the Evil One no chance to say anything against them,

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

5:14 Paul is advising younger widows to remarry—and to marry believers (5:11-12; cp. 2:15).
• not . . . say anything against them: Their actions were hurting their testimony for the Good News (see 1 Thes 4:11-12; Titus 2:8).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

νεωτέρας

/the/_younger_‹women›

Here Paul is referring to the younger widows whom he has been speaking about in 5:11–13. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “those younger widows”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

μηδεμίαν ἀφορμὴν διδόναι τῷ ἀντικειμένῳ λοιδορίας χάριν

not_one opportunity /to_be/_giving ˱to˲_the_‹one› opposing ˱of˲_insult for_reason_of

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of opportunity, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: “do nothing that would allow the one opposing to revile”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

λοιδορίας χάριν

˱of˲_insult for_reason_of

Here, the reviling could be directed toward: (1) believers in general. Alternate translation: “for reviling us” (2) just the widows. Alternate translation: “for reviling them”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τῷ ἀντικειμένῳ

˱to˲_the_‹one› opposing

Here, the phrase the one opposing could refer to: (1) Satan. In this case, Satan probably would use other people to revile believers. Alternate translation: “to the devil” (2) any person who opposes or attacks believers. Alternate translation: “to people who oppose us” or “to enemies of the believers”
