TSNTyndale Study Notes:

9:13-33 The seventh plague was a hailstorm (9:18). It rains in Egypt only a few days each year, and hail and thunderstorms are largely unknown, so this storm would have been terrifying. That may be why there is more theological reflection associated with it. The devastating effect of the plague was to destroy the flax and barley crops (9:31).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־שָׂ֛ם לִבּ֖וֹ אֶל

and=which not take his/its=heart to/towards

Here, set his heart means he believed or thought something was true. If the heart is not the body part your culture uses to refer to a person’s will, consider using whichever organ your culture would use for this image. Alternate translation: “but whoever did not respect”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

דְּבַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה

word/matter_of YHWH

Here, the word of Yahweh refers to Yahweh’s warning, more broadly it means they did not believe that Yahweh would do what he threatened. Alternate translation: “Yahweh’s warning”
