UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) Now then, have I traveled up here without Yahweh to fight against this land and destroy it?

(Some words not found in UHB: and=now ?,from,without YHWH come_up on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the=earth/land the,this to,destroy,it YHWH he/it_had_said to=me leaf_of to/towards the=earth/land the,this and,destroy,it )

The chief commander uses another question to ridicule Hezekiah and the people of Judah. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this question as a statement. Alternate translation: “I came here with Yahweh’s command to destroy Jerusalem.”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) without Yahweh

(Some words not found in UHB: and=now ?,from,without YHWH come_up on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the=earth/land the,this to,destroy,it YHWH he/it_had_said to=me leaf_of to/towards the=earth/land the,this and,destroy,it )

Here “Yahweh” refers to Yahweh’s orders. Alternate translation: “without Yahweh’s command”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) against this land and destroy it … Attack this land and destroy it

This means to fight against the people and cause destruction in the place where they live. The land referred to here is Jerusalem. Alternate translation: “against this people and destroy their land … Attack these people and destroy their land”
