TSNTyndale Study Notes:

41:1-46 God had used two dreams to identify Joseph as a leader among his brothers (37:5-11). He used two dreams to test Joseph’s faith in prison (40:5-14). Now he would use two dreams to elevate Joseph from prison to preeminence. Joseph had repeatedly proven faithful in small matters; now he would be put in charge of great things.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

וְשָׁ֨ם אִתָּ֜נוּ נַ֣עַר עִבְרִ֗י

and=there with,us young Hebrew

Translate “young … man” in a way that fits with the fact that Joseph was 30 years old (verse 46) and was not yet married.

עֶ֚בֶד לְשַׂ֣ר הַטַּבָּחִ֔ים

servant of,captain the,guard

Consider again how you translated chief of the guards in the book of Genesis. See Gen 37:36; 39:1; 40:3-4; 41:10, 12. Alternate translation: “who was a servant for the captain of the guards.”

וַנְּ֨סַפֶּר ל֔וֹ

and,told to=him/it

Consider again how you translated told in the book of Genesis. See Gen 24:66; 29:13; 37:9-10; 40:8-9; 41:8, 12. Alternate translation: “After we described our dreams to him,”

וַיִּפְתָּר לָ֖נוּ אֶת חֲלֹמֹתֵ֑ינוּ

and,interpreted to/for=us DOM dreams,our

Alternate translation: “he told us what they meant.”

אִ֥ישׁ כַּחֲלֹמ֖וֹ פָּתָֽר

(a)_man according_to,dream,his interpreted

Alternate translation: “He told each of us the meaning of our dreams.”
