Peter is suggesting that this is a hypothetical condition, that all might be caused to stumble. Use a natural form in your language for introducing a situation that could happen. Alternate translation: “Were all to be caused to stumble”

Here Peter speaks as if Jesus were a lump or rock that his disciples could stumble on. He means that they may reject and desert Jesus because of what will happen to him. Alternate translation: “will desert you because of what will happen to you … will desert you” or “will run away from you … will run away”
