ULT And it will happen on that day,
 ⇔ his burden will be lifted from your shoulder and his yoke from your neck,
⇔  and the yoke will be destroyed from the face of fatness. [fn]

The last line of this verse is difficult because it does not seem to fit the context. Some modern versions leave out from the face of fatness.

UST One day in the future, Yahweh will cause the army of Assyria to stop oppressing you, his people;
⇔ he will end your suffering and your being slaves of the people of Assyria;
 ⇔ you will become too strong for them.

10:27 “Anointing with oil:” literally, “before the oil/fat.” The meaning of this phrase is much debated. Some suggest that this means that Israel has symbolically grown so fat that the yoke no longer fits. Jewish tradition however associates it with the anointing of King Hezekiah, and some Christian writers have pointed to Christ as the Messiah, the “anointed one.”

?:? The meaning of this phrase is uncertain, leading to the conjecture that it belongs with the next verse and by a different word division could mean “he has gone up from Jeshimon”; alternatively, “fat” could be a metaphor for prosperity

“Yahweh will lift the burden that Assyria has put on your shoulder, and he will remove the yoke that they have put on your neck.” These two phrases mean basically the same thing. The words “burden” and “yoke” refer to slavery. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “Yahweh will remove the Assyrians who oppress you and will stop them from making you their slaves” (See also: figs-parallelism and figs-metonymy)

This expression suggests that the neck of the animal that is wearing the yoke will become too fat to fit the yoke any longer. This is a metaphor for Israel becoming so strong that the Assyrians can no longer rule them. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “your neck will become so fat that it will break the yoke” or “you will become so strong that you will no longer be the Assyrians’ slaves” (See also: figs-metaphor)
