A message for Ahaz

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Readers’ Version

Literal Version

7:1 A message for Ahaz

7During the reign of King Ahaz (son of Yotam, son of Uzziyah) in Yehudah (Judah), King Retsin from Aram and King Pekah (son of Remaliah) from Yisrael, went up to Yerushalem attack it, but they weren’t able to conquer it.[ref] 2Tt was reported to David’s descendants that Aram (Syria) stands by with Efrayim, and the king and the people trembled just like the trees in the forest shaking in the wind.

3Then Yahweh told Yeshayah, “Please go out with your son Shear-Yashuv to meet Ahaz at the end of the channel from the upper pool, near the road to the field where they wash clothes, 4and tell him, ‘Be careful and calm and don’t be afraid. Don’t let your courage melt away because of these two tails of smoldering firebrands, i.e., by the anger of Retsin and Aram and Remalyah’s son. 5Yes, they’ve plotted together against you, saying, 6“Let’s go up against Yehudah together and terrify her. Let’s break into her and crown Taveal’s son as king right there in the middle of her.” ’

7However, my master Yahweh says:

That’s not going to happen.

≈ They won’t succeed

8because Aram’s capital is Damascus

and Damascus’ leader is Retsin.

Nevertheless, with sixty-five years Efrayim (Yisrael) will no longer exist as a nation.

9Efrayim’s capital is Shomron (Samaria).

and Shomron’s leader is Remalyah’s son.

If you don’t keep believing,

then you’ll end up not standing.’ ”

7and_he/it_was in/on/at/with_days_of ʼĀḩāz the_son_of Yōtām/(Jotham) the_son_of ˊUzziyyāh the_king_of Yəhūdāh/(Judah) Rəʦīn he_went_up the_king_of ʼArām and_Fəqaḩyāh the_son_of Rəmalyāhū the_king_of Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) Yərūshālam/(Jerusalem) to_the_fight on/upon_it(f) and_not he_was_able to_mount_an_attack against_it.
2And_reported to_house_of Dāvid to_say ʼArām it_has_stood with ʼEfrayim heart_of_his and_shook and_heart_of people_of_his as_ the_trees_of _shake the_forest from_face/in_front_of a_wind.
3And_ YHWH _he/it_said to Yəshaˊyāh/(Isaiah) go_out please to_meet ʼĀḩāz you and_Shəʼār- yāshūⱱ son_of_your to the_end_of the_conduit_of the_pool the_upper to the_highway_of the_field_of the_washer.
4And_say to_him/it take_care and_quiet do_not be_afraid and_heart_of_your not let_it_be_timid because_of_two_of the_stumps_of the_firebrands the_smouldering the_these in/on/at/with_fierce_of the_anger of_Rəʦīn and_ʼArām and_son_of Rəmalyāhū.
5Because if/because it_has_planned against_you ʼArām harm ʼEfrayim and_son_of Rəmalyāhū to_say.
6Let_us_go_up in/on/at/with_Yəhūdāh and_tear_apart_it and_conquer_it for_ourselves and_make_king a_king in/on/at/with_midst_of_it DOM the_son_of Ţₑəʼēl.
7thus my_master he_says YHWH not it_will_stand and_not it_will_happen.
8If/because the_head_of ʼArām is_Dammeseq and_head_of Dammeseq is_Rəʦīn and_in/on/at/with_now sixty and_five year[s] ʼEfrayim it_will_be_shattered too_to_people.
9And_head_of ʼEfrayim is_Shomrōn and_head_of Shomrōn is_the_son_of Rəmalyāhū if not you(pl)_will_believe if/because not you(pl)_will_be_established.
