Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible—click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed as a tool for Bible-translators and others doing comparisons of different translations—the older translations are further down the page (so you can read up from the bottom to trace the English translation history). The OET segments on this page are still early looks into the drafted texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible—please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

Note 3 topic: writing-poetry
לֹ֣א תַאֲמִ֔ינוּ כִּ֖י לֹ֥א תֵאָמֵֽנוּ
not stand_firm_in_~_faith that/for/because/then/when not stand
The words translated as believ and established sound very similar in Hebrew. It is often difficult to reproduce this kind of word play in another language, but if your language does have similar terms that you can use in these instances, it would be appropriate to do that in your translation. If not, you could show the emphasis in another way. For example, some versions say “surely” instead of “then” to reflect how the wordplay makes this a stronger statement. Alternate translation: [If you do not believe, surely you will not be established]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
לֹ֥א תֵאָמֵֽנוּ
not stand
The expression you will not be established is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [God will not establish you]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / quotemarks
לֹ֥א תֵאָמֵֽנוּ
not stand
This is the end of a multi-level quotation structure. You may wish to mark the ending of each speech level with closing quotation marks or with some other punctuation or convention that your language uses. This is modeled in both the ULT and the UST.
