15:1-33 The principle of normal and abnormal and the created order again aids the interpretation of these regulations (see “Clean, Unclean, and Holy” Theme Note). Bodily discharges, such as infections (see study note on 13:1-46), were not “normal” because they weakened the vitality of the person, so the person was not seen as whole. Whether male (15:1-18) or female (15:19-33), such a person became unclean.
וְעָשָׂ֤ה אֹתָם֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן
and,sacrifice DOM=them the=priest/officer
Alternate translation: “And the priest shall prepare them”
Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns
וְעָשָׂ֤ה אֹתָם֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן
and,sacrifice DOM=them the=priest/officer
Here, them refers to the two birds that are described in the previous verse. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: “And the priest shall make the two birds”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
וְכִפֶּ֨ר עָלָ֧יו הַכֹּהֵ֛ן
and,make_atonement on/upon/above=him/it the=priest/officer
See how you translated the abstract noun atonement in 1:4. However, here and throughout this chapter, make sure that your translation makes it clear that the man is not being atoned for because of any sin on his or her part. In this case, atonement removes impurity that is not caused by sin, but by infection and uncleanness. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers in a footnote or in the text of your translation.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה
to=(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before YHWH
See how you translated this expression in 1:9.
