26:36 Gethsemane is the name of an olive orchard approximately 250 yards east of Jerusalem’s Golden Gate, overlooking the Kidron Valley on the edge of the Mount of Olives. Jesus and his disciples apparently met there often (Luke 22:39-40; John 18:1-2).
Note 1 topic: translate-tense
ἔρχεται & λέγει
/is/_coming & ˱he˲_/is/_saying
To call attention to a development in the story, Matthew uses the present tense in past narration. If it would not be natural to do that in your language, you could use the past tense in your translation. Alternate translation: “came … said”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / go
ἔρχεται
/is/_coming
In a context such as this, your language might say “goes” instead of comes. Alternate translation: “goes”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
λεγόμενον Γεθσημανεὶ
/being/_called (Some words not found in SR-GNT: τότε ἔρχεται μετʼ αὐτῶν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς χωρίον λεγόμενον Γεθσημανὶ καὶ λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς καθίσατε αὐτοῦ ἕως οὗ ἀπελθὼν ἐκεῖ προσεύξωμαι)
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “that people call Gethsemane”
