6:25 The bread that enables true life

25When they found him there across the lake, they queried, “Teacher, how did you get here?”

26Honestly, I know that you’re not looking for me because you saw God working miracles,Yeshua answered, “but because you all had plenty of food to fill you up. 27Don’t just work for the food which goes off, but for the food which lasts forever—the food which humanity’s child will give to you because God the father has put his mark of approval on him.

28Puzzled, they asked him, “What should we be doing if we want to work for God?”

29He answered, “Doing God’s work is putting your trust in the one that he sent here.

30“If so,” they said, “what miracle will you do for us to see so that we can believe that you came from God? What can you do? 31[ref]Our ancestors ate the manna[fn] out in the wilderness, just like Mosheh wrote, ‘He gave them bread from the sky to eat.’ ”

32Yeshua said to them, “Actually I can tell you that it wasn’t Mosheh who gave them bread from heaven, but my father gives you the real bread from heaven, 33because God’s bread is the one who came down from heaven and who gives life to the world.

34So they requested, “Mister, keep giving us that bread.”

35I am the bread that gives life,Yeshua answered, “anyone who comes to me will never hunger, and the one believing in me, will never be thirsty again. 36But as I said already, although you have seen me you refuse to believe me. 37Everyone that the father gives to me will come to me, and I certainly won’t turn away anyone who comes to me, 38because I came down from heaven, not to do what I want, but to do what the one who sent me wants. 39And what he wants is for me to not lose anyone that he’s given to me, but to bring them back to life on the last day. 40My father wants everyone who watches me and believes in me to live forever, because I will bring them back to life on that final day.

41This little speech made the religious leaders grumble about him because he had said that he was the food that came down from heaven, 42as they figured out, “This is Yeshua the son of Yosef and so we know his parents. So how can he say that he came down from heaven?”

43Yeshua scolded them, “Don’t be grumbling to each other. 44No one can join me unless the father who sent me attracts them, and then I’ll be bringing them back to life on that final day. 45[ref]The prophets wrote that the people will be taught by God. And everyone who’s heard and learned from the father comes to me. 46Not that any person has seen the father—only the one who came from God has seen him. 47I tell you sincerely: anyone who believes in me will live forever. 48I am the bread that gives true life. 49Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all went on to die. 50But I am the bread that came down from heaven and anyone who eats this will not die. 51I am the living bread that came down from heaven and if anyone eats this bread, he will live through to the next age.

52At this point, the religious leaders began to argue with each other, “How could this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53So Yeshua explained, “Indeed if you don’t eat my flesh and drink my blood, you aren’t truly alive! 54Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood will gain eternal life—I will bring them back to life on that final day. 55For my flesh is the true food, and my blood is the true drink. 56Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I will live in him. 57The father is alive and sent me here, and I am alive because of Him, so also the person who eats me will be alive because of me. 58Unlike your ancestors who ate that bread from the sky and then died, anyone who eats this bread that came down from heaven will live through to the next age.

6:31 Manna was a word that meant ‘stuff’ and referred to some kind of flakes that regularly came down from the sky in the time of Mosheh and could be eaten as food.

25And having_found him across of_the sea, they_said to_him:
My_great_one, when have_you_become here?
26The Yaʸsous answered to_them and said:
Truly, truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, you_all_are_seeking me, not because you_all_saw signs, but because you_all_ate of the loaves and were_satisfied.
27Be_ not _working for_the which perishing food, but the food which remaining to eternal life, which the son of_ the _man will_be_giving to_you_all, because/for the god the father sealed this one.
28Therefore they_said to him:
What may_we_be_doing, in_order_that we_may_be_doing the works of_ the _god?
29the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) Answered and said to_them:
This is the work of_ the _god, that you_all_may_be_believing in whom that one sent_out.
30Therefore they_said to_him:
Therefore what sign are_doing you, in_order_that we_may_see and we_may_believe in_you?
What are_you_doing?
31The fathers of_us ate the manna in the wilderness, as is having_been_written:
he_gave bread out_of the heaven to_them to_eat.
32Therefore the Yaʸsous said to_them:
Truly, truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, Mōsaʸs/(Mosheh) has_ not _given to_you_all the bread out_of the heaven, but the father of_me is_giving to_you_all the the true bread out_of the heaven.
33For/Because the bread of_ the _god is the one coming_down out_of the heaven, and giving life to_the world.
34Therefore they_said to him:
Master, always give this the bread to_us.
35the Yaʸsous said to_them:
I am the bread of_ the _life, the one coming to me, by_no_means may_ not _hunger, and the one believing in me, by_no_means will_ not ever _be_thirsting.
36But I_said to_you_all that you_all_ both _have_seen me and you_all_are_ not _believing.
37Everything that the father is_giving to_me, will_be_coming to me, and the one coming to me, by_no_means I_may_ not _throw_out out.
38Because I_have_came_down from the heaven, not in_order_that I_may_be_doing the my the will, but the will of_the one having_sent me.
39And this is the will of_the one having_sent me, that everything which he_has_given to_me, I_may_ not _lose of it, but I_will_be_raising_ it _up on_the last day.
40For/Because this is the will of_the father of_me, that everyone which observing the son and believing in him, may_be_having eternal life, and I will_be_raising_ him _up on_the last day.
41therefore the Youdaiōns /Were/_grumbling about him, because he_said:
I am the bread the one having_come_down out_of the heaven.
42And they_were_saying, is this Not Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) the son of_Yōsaʸf/(Yōşēf), of_whose the father and the mother we have_known?
How now is_he_saying, that I_have_came_down out_of the heaven?
43Yaʸsous Answered and said to_them:
Be_ not _grumbling with one_another.
44No_one is_able to_come to me, if not the father, the one having_sent me, may_draw him, and_I will_be_raising_ him _up the last day.
45It_is having_been_written in the prophets:
And they_will_ all _be taught of_god.
Everyone which having_heard from the father and having_learned, is_coming to me.
46Not that anyone has_seen the father, except not/lest the one being from the god, this one has_seen the father.
47Truly, truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, the one believing is_having eternal life.
48I am the bread of_ the _life.
49The fathers of_you_all ate the manna in the wilderness, and they_died_off.
50This is the bread which coming_down out_of the heaven, in_order_that anyone may_eat of it, and may_ not _die_off.
51I am the which living bread which having_come_down out_of the heaven, if anyone may_eat of this the bread, he_will_be_living to the age.
The even and bread that I will_be_giving, is the flesh of_me.
for the life of_the world.
52Therefore the Youdaiōns were_quarrelling with one_another saying:
How is_ this one _able to_give to_us the flesh of_him to_eat?
53Therefore the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) said to_them:
Truly, truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, if not you_all_may_eat the flesh of_the son of_ the _Man, and you_all_may_drink of_him the blood, you_all_are_ not _having life in yourselves.
54The one eating the flesh of_me, and drinking the blood of_me, is_having eternal life, and_I will_be_raising_up him at_the last day.
55For/Because the flesh of_me is true food, and the blood of_me is true drink.
56The one eating the flesh of_me, and drinking the blood of_me, is_remaining in me, and_I in him.
57As the living father sent_ me _out, and_I am_living because_of the father, also the one eating me, and_that one will_be_living because_of me.
58This is the bread which having_come_down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and they_died_off, the one eating this the bread will_be_living to the age.
