Evil comes from inside a person

Mark 7:14–23

Mat 15:10–20

14Yeshua called out to the crowd, “Everyone listen to me carefully: 15Nothing that enters your mouth makes you guilty in God’s eyes. It’s what comes out of you that demonstrates your culpability.

16 17When Yeshua came back inside, his apprentices asked him what he meant. 18But he scolded them, “Can’t you understand something so simple! Can’t you see that anything from the outside that enters your body doesn’t make you guilty in God’s sight, 19because it doesn’t enter your mind but merely goes into your stomach and ends up in the toilet.” (By saying this he clearly showed that is was ok for Jews to eat any food.)

20He continued, “It’s what comes out of you that makes you guilty in God’s eyes.21-22 21-22That’s because evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, arrogance, lust, slander, pride, and foolishness all come from inside people’s hearts and minds. 23So it’s the evil that’s inside a person and comes out that makes them guilty in God’s eyes.

10Then Yeshua called out to the crowd, “Listen carefully so you can understand this: 11It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you, but rather, it’s what comes out of your mouth.

12His apprentices then came up to him and told him, “You know that the Pharisees were offended by what you just said?”

13Every plant,” Yeshua answered, “that wasn’t planted by my heavenly father will get pulled out. 14[ref]Just ignore them. They’re blind guides, and if a blind person’s leading another blind person, both of them will stumble into a pit.

15But Peter asked him, “So explain your saying to us.”

16Can’t you figure it out yet?” Yeshua replied. 17Can’t you apprentices see that everything that goes into your mouth then goes down into your stomach, and eventually ends up in the toilet? 18[ref]But the things that come out of your mouth are coming from your mind, and that’s what defiles a person. 19After all, lust, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, stealing, falsely accusing, and slander, these all come out of the mind. 20It’s those things that defile a person, not eating without ceremonially washing your hands.
