Glosses: mouth
Comments: In some languages a distinction is made between terms used for the mouth when it is open and when it is closed. In {S:04402300200024} presumably the mouth was closed.|The term στόμα also occurs in a number of phrases associated with speech, but while in some languages one can say ‘to speak with the mouth,’ it may be more appropriate to say ‘to speak with the lips’ or ‘to speak with the tongue.’ In a number of contexts, however, it may be better simply to say ‘to speak,’ since the addition of ‘with the lips’ or ‘with the tongue’ or ‘with the mouth’ may appear to be unnecessarily redundant.

DefinitionShort: (an idiom, literally: to shut the mouth) to prevent harm or injury being done (in the one context in the NT, {S:05801103300022}, a reference to lions)
Glosses: ['to stop the mouth of', 'to keep from harming']
Comments: The particular historical reference of this phrase in {S:05801103300022} is not clear. In the account in {S:02700602200000} it is the angel of God which shut the mouths of the lions.
