TSNTyndale Study Notes:

11:30 Gilgal was the site of the first camp the Israelites would make in Canaan after crossing the Jordan (Josh 4:19). It was about two miles northeast of Jericho, although its exact location is no longer certain. A line from Jericho to Shechem would pass near Gilgal.
• The oaks of Moreh were near Shechem; they were where Abram had set up his first camp in Canaan (Gen 12:6) and where Jacob had later buried Laban’s idols (Gen 35:4).

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

?,not they(emph) in/on/at/with,across the,Jordan after road/way_of setting the,sun in=land the,Canaanites the,live in/on/at/with,arabah opposite the,Gilgal beside oaks Moreh

The Israelites are on the eastern side of the Jordan River. Moses uses a question to remind the people where these mountains are located. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this question as a statement, as modeled by the UST.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

מְב֣וֹא הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ

setting the,sun

Here, the sun setting is an idiom that means “the west.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use an idiom from your language that does have this meaning or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “the west side”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

מ֚וּל

opposite

Here opposite means “near”. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: “close to”

Note 4 topic: translate-names

אֵלוֹנֵ֥י מֹרֶֽה

oaks Moreh

The term the oaks of Moreh probably refers to a place near Gilgal where there were sacred trees.
