69 For the chief musician; David
1 Save me, God,
for waters have come up to, my life.
2 I have sunk in mire of depth,
and there is no standing.
I have come into depths of waters,
and a flood overflows me.
3 I am weary in my calling out;
my throat is parched.
My eyes fail
as I am waiting for my God.
4 The ones hating me gratuitously
are more than the hairs of my head.
The ones destroying me are mighty,
my enemies of falsehood.
What I did not steal,
yet I must restore.
5 God, you, you know my foolishness,
and my sins are not hidden from you.
6 May the ones waiting for you not have shame because of me,
Lord Yahweh of Armies.
May the ones seeking you not be humiliated because of me,
God of Israel.
7 For because of you I have borne reproach;
humiliation has covered my face.
8 I have become a stranger to my brothers
and a foreigner to the sons of my mother.
9 For zeal for your house has consumed me,
and the reproaches of the ones reproaching you have fallen on me.
10 Though I wept, in my soul with fasting,
yet it became reproaches to me;
11 though I made my clothing sackcloth,
yet I became a proverb to them.
12 The sitters at the gate speak about me,
and the songs of the drinkers of beer.
13 But I, my prayer, is to you, Yahweh.
At a time of favor, God,
in the greatness of your covenant faithfulness,
answer me in the truth of your salvation.
14 Deliver me from the mire, and let me not sink.
Let me be delivered from the ones hating me
and from the depths of the waters.
15 Let the flood of waters not overflow me,
and let the deep not swallow me,
and let the pit not close its mouth over me.
16 Answer me, Yahweh, for your covenant faithfulness, is good;
according to the greatness of your compassion, turn to me.
17 And may you not hide your face from your servant,
for trouble, is to me; hurry, answer me.
18 Draw near to my soul, redeem it;
because of my enemies, ransom me.
19 You, you know my reproach
and my shame and my humiliation.
All of my adversaries, are before you.
20 Reproach has broken my heart,
and I am sick.
Though I waited for sympathy, yet there was none,
and for comforters, yet I did not find.
21 But they put gall in my food,
and they made me drink vinegar for my thirst.
22 Let their table become a snare to their faces
and a trap for their welfare.
23 Let their eyes darken from seeing,
and make their loins tremble continually.
24 Pour your indignation on them,
and let the burning of your nose overtake them.
25 Let their encampment be deserted;
let there not be a dweller in their tents.
26 For you, whom you have struck, they have persecuted,
and they talk about the pain of your wounded.
27 Add iniquity to their iniquity,
and let them not come into your righteousness.
28 Let them be wiped from the book of the living,
and let them not be written with the righteous.
29 But I, am poor and feeling pain;
may your salvation, God, set me on high.
30 I will praise the name of God with a song,
and I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 And this will be better to Yahweh than an ox,
a bull having horns and having hooves.
32 The poor will see, they will rejoice;
seekers of God, let your heart live.
33 For Yahweh is hearing the needy,
and he does not despise his prisoners.
34 Let the heavens and the earth praise him,
the seas and everything moving in them.
35 For God will save Zion,
and he will build the cities of Judah,
that they may dwell there and possess it.
36 And the seed of his servants will inherit it,
and the ones loving his name will dwell in it.
