1:14 The selection of the first followers/apprentices
(Mat. 4:12-22; Luke 4:14-15; 5:1-11)
14 After Yohan (John; Grk. Yoannes) had been arrested, Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) went back up north to Galil, announcing the good news from God 15 saying, “The promised time is here, and God’s kingdom is now near. Turn from your sins and believe this good news.”[ref]
16 As he went around Lake Galil, Yeshua saw two fishermen, Shim’on (Simon) and his brother Andreas, throwing a net into the lake 17 and he said to them, “Come with me and I’ll make you into fishers of people.” 18 So they left their fishing work and went off with Yeshua.
19 Then a bit further on he saw two of Zavday’s (Grk. Zebedaios) sons, Ya’akov (James; Grk. Yakobos) and his brother Yohan, in a boat getting the nets ready. 20 Yeshua called them and they too went off with him, leaving their father Zavday in the boat with the hired workers.
12 When Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) heard that Yohan (John; Grk. Yoannes) had been arrested,[ref] he withdrew up to Galil. 13 Then he moved from Nazaret (Nazareth) across to Kafarnaoum (Capernaum) beside the lake,[ref] in the regions that had been given to the tribes of Zevulun and Naftali (Naphtali), 14 so that what had been written by the prophet Yeshayah (Isaiah) would come true,
15 ‘Land of Zevulun and land of Naftali,
the way of the sea beyond the Yarden (Jordan) river;
16 The people sitting in darkness
and those sitting in a land under the shadow of death
had a light rise over them.’[ref]
17 From then onwards, Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) started preaching and telling people to turn from their sins because the heavenly kingdom is close.[ref]
18 As Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) walked beside Lake Galil, he saw two brothers, Shim’on (Simon) (later nicknamed ‘Rock’/Kefa (Peter; Grk. Petros)) and Andreas, throwing a net into the water because they were fishermen. 19 “Come and follow me,” Yeshua told them, “and I’ll make you into fishers of people.” 20 So they left their nets immediately and followed after him.
21 Going on a bit further, he saw two other brothers, Ya’akov (James; Grk. Yakobos) and Yohan (John; Grk. Yoannes), in the boat getting their nets ready along with their father Zavday (Grk. Zebedaios), and Yeshua also called the two of them. 22 So they too immediately left the boat and their father, and followed after him.
5 One time when the crowd was pressuring Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) that they wanted to hear God’s message as he stood by Lake Galil, 2 he saw two boats at the edge of the water, but the fishermen had left the boats so they could wash their nets. 3 Yeshua hopped into one of the boats which turned out to be Shim’on’s (Simon), and asked him just to row out a little way from the land. Then Yeshua sat there in the boat and taught the crowds from there.[ref]
4 Once he’d finished his speaking, he told Shim’on, “Go out to the deeper parts and lower your nets to catch some fish.”
5 “Master,” Shim’on answered, “we worked all through the night and didn’t catch anything,[ref] but ok, I’ll do what you say and lower the nets.” 6 When they lowered the nets, they quickly netted a huge catch of fish,[ref] so much so that their nets began to rip 7 and they had to signal to their companions in the other boat to come and help. When they got there, they filled both boats with so many fish that the weight began to sink them. 8 When Shim’on Kefa (Peter; Grk. Petros) had a moment to realise what had just happened, he knelt in the boat in front of Yeshua and said, “You must leave me, master, because I’m just a sinful man.”
9 Kefa and all those with him were stunned at the size of the catch, 10 including Ya’akov (James; Grk. Yakobos) and Yohan (John; Grk. Yoannes) (Zavday’s (Grk. Zebedaios) sons) who were his fishing partners. Then Yeshua told Shim’on, “Don’t be afraid—from now on you’ll be catching people.”
11 When they got the boats up onto the shore, they left everything there and followed after Yeshua.
Mat 3:2:
2 telling everyone, “Turn from your sins, because the heavenly kingdom is close.”[ref]
Mat 14:3:
3 Herodes said this because he’d previously had Yohan (John; Grk. Yoannes) arrested and put in prison because of Herodias, his brother Filippos’s (Philip) wife.[ref]
Mrk 6:17:
17 Because Herodes himself had had Yohan arrested and put in prison because he had married Herodias, his brother Filippos’s (Philip) wife.[ref]
Luk 3:19-20:
19 He scolded King Herodes (Herod) (who was the ruler of the Galili quarter) about marrying his own brother Filippos’s (Philip) wife Herodias.[ref] Herodes had also been scolded by him about many other evil things that he’d done, 20 and then he added to his evils by having Yohan locked up in prison.
Yhn 2:12:
12 After that, Yeshua and his mother and brothers and his followers travelled east to Kafarnaoum (Capernaum),[ref] but they only stayed there a few days.
Isa 9:1-2:
9 However, it won’t not cover over those who are distressed. Previously he humiliated the Zevulun and Naftali (Naphtali) regions, but later, he’ll honour the way of the sea—beyond the Yarden (Jordan) river—Galil of the nations.[ref]
9:2 The coming king
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a powerful light.
≈ The light has shone on those who’ve lived in a land of darkness.[ref]
Mrk 3:9-10:
9 So Yeshua asked his apprentices to organise a small boat to be there for him so he wouldn’t be cramped by the press of the crowd.[ref] 10 ⇔Virtually anyone who had any physical issues was pressing towards him to touch him, because he had already healed so many.
4:1:
4 Again Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) started teaching by the edge of the lake. A huge crowd gathered around him, but he had boarded a boat that was floating in the water, and all the people were there on the shore.[ref]
Mat 13:1-2:
13 That same day, Yeshua (Jesus; Grk. Yesus) went outside and sat by the lake. 2 A large crowd gathered around him, so he got into a boat and sat there while the crowd remained standing on the beach.[ref]
Yhn 21:3:
3 when Shim’on Kefa said that he was going fishing and the others said that they’d join him.
So they went off and got in the boat, but they didn’t catch anything that night.[ref]
Yhn 21:6:
6 Then he said, “Throw the net out over the right side of the boat and you’ll find some.” So they did it and they caught so many fish that the net was too heavy to pull back in.[ref]
