DefinitionShort: the Law given through Moses, as formulated in the first five books of the OT
Glosses: ['the Law', 'the Law of Moses', 'the Law given through Moses', 'Moses']
Comments: In a number of languages it is quite appropriate to refer to the writings of a person by simply mentioning the author, but in many languages this cannot be done. Furthermore, in {S:04700301500014} it may be necessary to employ an active expression, so that one must translate ‘whenever people read the laws which God gave through Moses.’ The use of Μωϋσῆς as a reference to the Law of Moses also occurs in the phrase ‘Moses and the prophets’ as a reference to the sacred writings (compare ὁ νόμος καὶ οἱ προφῆται ‘the sacred writings,’ {D:33.58}).
