Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. 1:4-11 John now applies the truth and love that he mentioned in the introduction (1:1-3) to the readers’ situation. Living in truth and love means maintaining fellowship with true Christians (1:4-6), but also discerning false teachers and refusing to listen to them or help them (1:7-11).

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

/is/_sharing ˱in˲_the works ˱of˲_him ¬the evil
John is using the verb shares in a particular sense here to mean assisting and helping to advance the activity of the false teacher. Alternate translation: [takes part in his evil deeds] or [helps him in his evil deeds]
