Deu 29:18 (LXX):
18 If there happens to be a man or woman, or clan or tribe, whose loyalty is turning away today from your god Yahweh and to go and serve those gods in those other nations, i.e., if there’s a bitter or poisonous root among you all,[ref]
Gen 25:29-34:
29 One day, Ya’akov was cooking some stew when Esav arrived home from being out, and he was very hungry 30 and asked Ya’akov, “I’m starving—can I have some of that yummy-looking red stuff.” (After that, Esav’s nickname became ‘Edom’, meaning ‘red’.)
31 “Well, now,” Ya’akov answered, “sell me your future inheritance.”
32 “Listen, I’m dying of starvation,” said Esav, “so what use would a future inheritance be to me?”
33 “Well then, make a vow to me,” insisted Ya’akov.
So Esav promised him, effectively selling his future inheritance to Ya’akov,[ref] 34 and Ya’akov gave him some of the lentil stew and some bread. So Esav ate and drank and left again, thus despising his own inheritance as firstborn son.
Gen 27:30-40:
30 Then just as Yitshak (Isaac) had finished blessing Ya’akov (Jacob), and as Ya’akov had only just gone out from his father’s presence, his brother Esav (Esau) his brother returned from his hunting. 31 Then he too prepared some tasty food and brought it in to his father and said, “Let my father get up and eat from the game that his son hunted so that you can bless me.”
32 But Yitshak asked him, “Which son are you?”
“I’m your oldest son Esav.” he answered.
33 Then Yitshak started to trembled badly and he said, “Then who was it that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it all just before you came in, and I blessed that man and indeed, he’ll be blessed.”
34 When Esav heard that, then he let out a very loud and exceedingly bitter wail, and then begged his father, “Bless me too, my father.”
35 But Yitshak replied, “Your brother came in and deceived me and he’s taken your blessing!”
36 “Yes, his name Ya’akov (Jacob) (meaning ‘deceiver’) suits him exactly!” said Esav. “First he took my inheritance[ref] and man, now he’s also taken my blessing!” Then he asked, “Haven’t you at least saved a blessing for me?”
37 But Yitshak replied, “Listen, I’ve made him master over you, and I’ve given all his brothers to him as slaves. And I’ve sustained him with grain and wine. So then, what else can I do for you, my son?”
38 “My father, Did you only have one blessing that you could give?” Esav asked. “Bless me too, my father!” Then Esav sobbed loudly.[ref]
39 Then his father Yitshak responded and said to him,
“Listen, you and your descendants will live
away from the most fertile land on the earth[fn]
in a place that doesn’t get dew from the sky.[ref]
40 You and your descendants will live by your sword,
27:39 The Hebrew text is ambiguous here. It could mean: (1) “away from the fatness of the earth and away from the dew of the heavens from above.” or “in a place/region where the earth/land/ground is not rich/fertile and where there is very little dew/rain.” or “in a place/region where the land/soil is not good for farming and where there is not much rain.” or (2) “of the fatness of the earth and of the dew of the heavens from above.” or “in a place where the land is good/fertile for farming and where there is plenty of dew/rain.”
Exo 19:16-22:
16 So on the morning of the third day, there was thunder and lightning[ref] and a thick cloud on the mountain, and an extremely loud horn blast, and all the people in the camp were trembling. 17 Then Mosheh led the people out of the camp to go and meet God, and they stationed themselves at the foot of the mountain. 18 Yahweh descended onto Mt. Sinay surrounded by fire and the entire mountain smoked. Its smoke went up like the smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently. 19 Then it happened after the sound of the horn got extremely loud, that Mosheh was speaking and God was answering him in a voice. 20 Yahweh had descended onto the top of Mt. Sinay, and he called Mosheh up to the top of the mountain, so Mosheh ascended. 21 But Yahweh told him, “Go back down and warn the people in case they force their way through to look at me and many of them perish. 22 Also, the priests who come nearer to me, they must be very careful to purify themselves in case I suddenly punish them.”
20:18-21:
18 All of the people could hear and see the thunder and the lightning, the sound of the horn, and the mountain smoking. They trembled when they saw it, and they remained standing at a distance.[ref] 19 They begged Mosheh (Moses), “You be the one to speak to us, and we’ll listen, but don’t let God speak directly to us, in case we die.”
20 “Don’t be afraid,” Mosheh responded, “because God has come to test you so that the fear of him will remain with you so that you all won’t disobey him.” 21 So the people stood at a good distance while Mosheh approached toward the thick darkness where God was.

11 “So you all approached the mountain and stood at its base while it blazed with fire that went up into the atmosphere even though the mountain was covered with dark, gloomy clouds.[ref] 12 Then Yahweh spoke to you from the middle of the flames—you heard the voice even though you couldn’t see anyone,
5:22-27:
22 Yahweh spoke those words in a booming voice from the middle of the fire, the cloud, and the gloom, to all your assembly on the mountain.[ref] That was all he said, and he wrote those instructions on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
5:23 The people’s fear
23 Then when you heard the voice coming out from the darkness and the mountain was blazing with fire, then all the heads of your tribes and the elders approached me 24 and said, “Listen, our god Yahweh demonstrated his greatness and power when we heard him speak from the fire. Today, we’ve realised that God talks to people, and that they can stay alive. 25 However, we’re still afraid that we’ll die—getting burnt up in that intense fire if we continue hearing our god Yahweh’s voice, 26 because when has anybody else ever heard the voice of the living god speak to them from the middle of a blazing fire and they still lived? 27 You Mosheh (Moses), go and listen to everything that our god Yahweh says, and tell us everything that he tells you, and we’ll listen to that and obey it.”
Exo 19:12-13:
12 Set boundaries for the people all around, and tell them, ‘Don’t climb on the mountain or touch its edge, because anyone who does will definitely be executed.[ref] 13 Anyone who touches the mountain mustn’t be touched by anyone else—they must be executed by throwing rocks at them or shooting them with a bow. No person or animal who touches the mountain can stay alive.’ Only after a long trumpet blast should they start to climb the mountain.”
