Songs 91/God our protector

Psa 91:1–16

91Anyone who stays where they’re sheltered by the highest one,

will be able to rest safely in the powerful one’s shadow.

2I will tell people that Yahweh is my safe place and my fortress,

my God that I’ll put my trust in.

3He will keep you safe from the hunter’s traps,

and from deadly diseases.

4He’ll cover you with his wings,

and you’ll feel safe underneath them.

His faithfulness is a shield and protection.

5You won’t be afraid of the terror of the night,

or of a flying arrow hitting you in the day.

6You won’t be afraid of the forces that roam around in the darkness,

or of the destruction that causes devastation at noon time.

7A thousand warriors might fall dead at your side,

and ten thousand at your right hand,

yet you still won’t be reached by the enemy.

8Just look with your own eyes,

and you’ll see the wicked people being punished.

9Yes, Yahweh is my safe place.

Make every effort to stay with the highest one.

10Then nothing will be able to harm you.

No evil will approach your home

11because he’ll command his messengers about you—[ref]

to guard you wherever you’re going.

12They’ll lift you up in their hands,[ref]

so that you won’t hit your foot on a rock.

13You’ll beat back the lion and the cobra with your feet.[ref]

You’ll trample on the young lion and the snake.

14I’ll rescue those who’re devoted to me.

I’ll protect them because they know my name.

15When anyone calls out to me, I’ll answer them,

I’ll be with them in times of trouble.

I’ll rescue and honour them.

16I’ll satisfy them with a long life,

and I’ll show them how I can save them.
