30 Then Yahweh gave me another message:

2 “Son of humanity, prophesy and say that the master Yahweh says this:

‘Wail now because the coming days won’t go well.

3 The day is near—the day is near for Yahweh.

It’ll be a day of clouds—a time of doom for nations.

4 Then an army will come against Mitsrayim (Egypt),

and there’ll be anguish in Kush (Ethiopia) when the people are killed in Mitsrayim—

when they take its wealth,

and when its foundations get torn apart.

5 Kush and Put, Ludia, all Arav, and Libya, together with the people belonging to the agreement—they’ll all be killed by the sword. 6 Yahweh says this: The ones who support Mitsrayim militarily will fall, and the pride of Mitsrayim’s strength will collapse. From Migdol to Seveneh their combined warriors will be killed by the sword. That’s the master Yahweh’s declaration. 7 Those allies will be appalled there among the abandoned lands, and their cities will be among all the other ruined cities. 8 Then they’ll know that I am Yahweh, when I set fire to Mitsrayim, and when all its helpers are destroyed.

9 At that time, messengers will go out from in front of me in ships to terrorise Kush when they think they’re secure, and there’ll be anguish among them on the day of Mitsrayim’s doom. Yes, take notice, it’s coming. 10 The master Yahweh says this: I’ll use the Babylonian King Nevukadnetsar (Nebuchadnezzar) to bring Mitsrayim’s multitudes to an end. 11 He and his army with him, the terror of nations, will be brought in to destroy the land. They’ll draw out their swords against Mitsrayim and fill the land with those they kill. 12 I’ll make the rivers into dry ground, and I’ll sell the land into the hands of wicked men. I’ll make the land and its abundant produce desolate by the actions of strangers. I, Yahweh, have spoken.

13 The master Yahweh says this: I’ll destroy idols, and I’ll bring an end to the worthless idols in Nof (Memphis). There won’t be a prince in the land of Mitsrayim any longer, and I’ll put terror into Mitsrayim. 14 Then I’ll make the Patros region desolate and set fire to Tsoan city, and I’ll execute judgement against No (Thebes) (the capital of southern Mitsrayim). 15 I’ll pour out my fury on Mitsrayim’s fortress Sin, and cut off the crowd at No. 16 Then I’ll set fire to Mitsrayim: Sin will be in great agony, No will be broken up, and Nof will face enemies every day. 17 The young men of Aven and Pi-Beset cities will be killed by the sword, and their populations will be taken into captivity. 18 In Mitsrayim’s Tahfanhes, the day will hold back its light when I break Mitsrayim’s power and control there, and its pride in its strength will be finished. There’ll be a cloud covering it, and its daughters will be taken away into captivity. 19 I’ll execute acts of judgement in Mitsrayim, then they’ll know that I am Yahweh.’ ”

20 At the beginning of May in the eleventh year since King Yehoyakin had been taken captive,[fn] Yahweh gave me a message: 21 “Son of humanity, I’ve broken the Mitsri (Egyptian) king Par’oh’s (Pharaoh) arm. Listen, it hasn’t been put in a splint, or set to heal with a bandage, so that it’ll become strong enough again to hold a sword. 22 Therefore the master Yahweh says this, ‘Listen, I’m against the Mitsri king Par’oh and I’ll break both his strong arm and the previously broken one, and I’ll make the sword fall from his grip. 23 Then I’ll scatter Mitsrayim (Egypt) among the other nations and disperse their people among the lands. 24 I’ll strengthen the Babylonian king’s arms and place my sword in his hand so that I can destroy Par’oh’s arms. He’ll groan in front of the Babylonian king with the groans of a dying man. 25 I’ll strengthen the arms of the Babylonian king, while Par’oh’s arms will fall. Then they’ll know that I am Yahweh, when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Bavel (Babylon) and he uses it against Mitsrayim. 26 I’ll scatter Mitsrayim among the other nations and disperse their people through the lands. Then they’ll know that I am Yahweh.”
