Readers’ Version

Literal Version

46The master Yahweh says this: The eastern gate of the inner courtyard will be shut for the six days of work, but it’ll be opened on rest days and on the day of the new moon. 2The leader will enter the outer courtyard by the path to that gate and its outside porch, and he’ll stand at the doorposts of the inner gate while the priests perform his burnt offering and peace offering. Then he’ll worship right there at the inner gate and then leave again, but the gate won’t be shut until evening. 3The people will also worship in front of Yahweh at the entrance to that gate on rest days and new moons. 4The burnt offering that the leader offers to Yahweh on the rest day will be six unblemished lambs and an unblemished ram. 5The grain offering that he gives with the ram is twenty-two litres of flour, and with the lambs it should be as much as he pleases, along with one litre of olive oil for every twenty-two litres of flour. 6On the day of the new moon he must offer a bull, six lambs, and a ram—all without any defects. 7He must also provide a grain offering of twenty-two litres of flour with the bull, the same with the ram, and as much as he wants with the lambs, along with a litre of olive oil with every twenty-two litres of flour. 8The leader enters by the path to the gate and its porch, and he must leave by the same path.

9But when the land’s people come in front of Yahweh at the scheduled festivals, anyone entering through the north gate to worship must leave through the south gate, and anyone entering through the south gate must leave through the north gate. No one is allowed to turn back to the gate through which they entered, because everyone must keep going straight ahead until they get out. 10The leader must be amongst them in their midst—when they go in, he must go in, and when they leave, he must leave. 11During the festivals that you hold for me, the king must present twenty-two litres of flour along with a bull or a ram, and as much flour as he wants to with the lambs, along with a litre of olive oil with every twenty-two litres of flour.

12When the leader gives a voluntary offering to Yahweh (either a burnt offering or a peace offering), the eastern gate will be opened for him. He’ll offer his burnt offering or his peace offering just like he does on the rest day. Then he must go out, and after he’s gone out, the gate will be shut.

46thus my_master he_says YHWH the_gate_of the_courtyard (the)_inner which_faces east it_will_be shut the_six_of the_days_of (the)_work and_on_the_day_of the_sabbath it_will_be_opened and_on_the_day_of the_new_moon it_will_be_opened.
2And_he_will_go the_prince the_way_of the_porch_of the_gate from_outside and_he_will_stand at the_doorpost_of the_gate and_they_will_offer the_priests DOM offering_of_his_burnt and_DOM offerings_of_his_peace and_he_will_bow_down at the_threshold_of the_gate and_he_will_go_out and_the_gate not it_will_be_shut until the_evening.
3And_ the_people_of _they_will_bow_down the_earth/land the_entrance_of the_gate (the)_that on_sabbaths and_on_moons to_(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before YHWH.
4And_the_burnt_offering which he_will_bring_near the_prince to/for_YHWH in/on_day of_the_sabbath will_be_six lambs unblemished and_a_ram unblemished.
5And_a_grain_offering will_be_an_ʼēyfāh for_ram and_for_lambs a_grain_offering will_be_the_gift_of his/its_hand and_oil a_hin to_ʼēyfāh.
6And_on_the_day_of the_new_moon a_young_bull a_young_one_of the_herd unblemished and_six_of lambs and_a_ram unblemished they_will_be.
7And_an_ʼēyfāh for_bull and_an_ʼēyfāh for_ram he_will_provide a_grain_offering and_for_lambs just_as it_will_reach his/its_hand and_oil a_hin to_ʼēyfāh.
8And_when_comes the_prince the_way_of the_porch_of the_gate he_will_come and_by_its_of_way he_will_go_out.
9And_when_comes the_people_of the_earth/land to_(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before YHWH at_times the_one_who_comes the_way_of the_gate_of the_north to_bow_down he_will_go_out the_way_of the_gate_of the_south and_the_one_who_comes the_way_of the_gate_of the_south he_will_go_out the_way_of the_gate_of northward not he_will_return the_way_of the_gate which he_came in_him/it if/because opposite_it he_will_go_out[fn].
10And_the_prince will_be_of_among_them when_they_come he_will_come and_when_they_go_out they_will_go_out.
11And_at_festivals and_at_times it_will_be the_grain_offering an_ʼēyfāh for_bull and_an_ʼēyfāh for_ram and_for_lambs the_gift_of his/its_hand and_oil a_hin to_ʼēyfāh.
12and_because/when he_will_provide the_prince a_freewill_offering a_burnt_offering or peace_offerings a_freewill_offering to/for_YHWH and_someone_will_open to_him/it DOM[fn] the_gate which_faces east and_he_will_offer DOM offering_of_his_burnt and_DOM offerings_of_his_peace just_as he_will_offer in/on_day of_the_sabbath and_he_will_go_out and_someone_will_shut DOM the_gate after he_has_gone_out.

13In addition, every morning someone[fn] must provide a one year old lamb with no defects to be completely burnt up as an offering to Yahweh. 14Also every morning someone must provide an offering of four litres of flour mixed with a litre of olive oil, and that’s a permanent requirement. 15They’ll prepare the lamb, the grain offering, and the oil, every morning—a permanent daily burnt offering.

13And_a_lamb the_son_of its_year_of_of unblemished you_will_offer a_burnt_offering to_day to_YHWH in_morning in_morning you_will_offer DOM_him/it.

15And[fn] DOM the_lamb and_DOM the_grain_offering and_DOM the_oil in_morning in_morning a_burnt_offering_of continuity.

16The master Yahweh says this: If the leader gives a gift to any of his sons, it becomes his inheritance—that is, it’ll become his sons’ property because it’s an inheritance. 17But if he gives a gift from his inheritance to one of his servants, then it’ll belong to that servant until the year of liberty, and then it’ll return to the leader. His inheritance must definitely be for his own sons.[ref] 18The leader mustn’t take the people’s inheritance away from them, evicting them from their own property—he must provide for his sons from his own property so that my people won’t be forced off their own inherited land.”

16thus my_master he_says YHWH if/because he_will_give the_prince a_gift to_anyone of_his_of_sons be_his_inheritance_of_will it to_his_of_sons it_will_belong be_their_possession_of_will it (in)_an_inheritance.
17And_because/when he_will_give a_gift from_his_of_inheritance to_one of_his_of_servants and_it_will_belong for_him/it until the_year_of (the)_liberty and_it_will_return to_prince surely inheritance_of_his sons_of_his to/for_them it_will_belong.
18And_not he_will_take_away the_prince any_of_the_inheritance_of the_people to_oppress_them from_their_of_possession some_of_his_own_possession he_will_cause_to_inherit DOM sons_of_his so_that that not they_may_be_scattered people_of_my anyone from_his_of_possession.

19Next the man brought me through the entrance at the gate to the sacred rooms for the priests which were north-facing, and what’s more, there was a place toward the west. 20He told me, “That’s the place where the priests must boil the guilt offering and the sin offering and where they must bake the grain offering. They mustn’t bring the offerings into the outer courtyard, because then the people would become sacred (and not be able to leave).”

21Then he brought me to the outer courtyard and led me past the four corners of that courtyard, and I saw that in every corner of the courtyard there was another enclosed area, 22and each was twenty-two metres long and sixteen metres wide. 23Around the inside of each of those enclosed areas was a stone ledge, with cooking hearths all around under the ledge. 24The man told me, “Those are the places where the temple workers will boil the people’s sacrifices.”

46:13 Some of the earliest translations (the Septuagint and the Vulgate) have ‘he’ here, suggesting it must be the leader.
