13 was _ a_ son_ ofa _ yearShāʼūl/(Saul) when _ he _ became _ kingand _ two _ ofyears he _ reignedover Yisrāʼēl /(Israel) .
2 And _ he _ choseto _ him/it Shāʼūl three _ ofthousand(s) from _ Yisrāʼēl /(Israel) and _ they _ werewith Shāʼūl two _ thousandat _ Mikmāş and _ in _ the _ hill_ country_ ofBēyt- ʼēl and _ one _ thousandthey _ werewith Yōnātān/(Yə hōnātān/(Jonathan)) at _ Giⱱˊāh of _ Binyāmīnand _ the _ rest_ ofthe _ peoplehe _ sent_ awayeach _ manto _ his _ of_ tents .
3 And _ Yōnātān _ he _ attackedDOM the _ garrison_ ofthe _ Fə lishtiywhich was _ at_ Geⱱaˊ and _ the _ Fə lishtiy_ they _ heardand _ Shāʼūl he _ gave_ a_ blaston _ trumpet in _ all the _ earth/land to _ say let _ them_ hearthe _ ˊIⱱrī/(Hebrews) .
4 And _ all Yisrāʼēl /(Israel) they _ heardto _ say Shāʼūl he _ has_ attackedDOM the _ garrison_ ofthe _ Fə lishtiyand _ also Yisrāʼēl /(Israel) it _ has_ made_ itself_ odiouswith _ Fə lishtiy and _ they _ were_ summonedthe _ people after Shāʼūl (the) _ Gilgāl .
5 And _ the _ Fə lishtiy they _ gatheredto _ fight with Yisrāʼēl /(Israel) thirty thousand chariot[s] and _ six _ ofthousand(s) horsemen and _ a _ peoplelike _ sand which is _ onthe _ shore_ ofthe _ sea to _ increase _ in_ numberand _ they _ came_ upand _ they _ encampedat _ Mikmāş the _ east_ ofBēyt Aven .
6 And _ everyone _ ofYisrāʼēl /(Israel) they _ sawif/because _ thatit _ was_ distressto _ him/it if/because it _ was_ hard_ pressedthe _ people and _ they _ hid_ themselvesthe _ people in _ caves and _ in _ thickets and _ in _ cliffs and _ in _ (the)_ chambers and _ in _ cisterns .
7 And _ ˊIⱱrī they _ passed_ overDOM the _ Yardēn/(Jordan) the _ land_ ofGād and _ Gilˊād and _ Shāʼūl/(Saul) still _ he was _ at_ Gilgāl and _ all the _ people they _ trembledafter _ him .
8 And _ he _ waited[fn ] seven _ ofdays to _ time which Shə mūʼēl /(Samuel) and _ not Shə mūʼēl he _ had_ come(the) _ Gilgāl and _ he/it _ scatteredthe _ people from _ with _ him .
9 And _ Shāʼūl _ he/it _ saidbring _ nearto _ me the _ burnt_ offering and _ the _ peace_ offerings and _ he/it _ ascendedthe _ burnt_ offering .
10 And _ he/it _ wasjust _ as _ he _ finishedto _ offer _ upthe _ burnt_ offering and _ see/lo/see Shə mūʼēl was _ comingand _ Shāʼūl _ he/it _ went_ outto _ meet _ him to _ bless _ him .

12 And _ I _ saidnow the _ Fə lishtiythey _ will_ come_ downto _ me (the) _ Gilgāl and _ the _ face_ ofYHWH not I _ have_ entreatedand _ I _ forced_ myselfand _ I _ offered_ upthe _ burnt_ offering .
13 and _ Shə mūʼēl _ he/it _ saidto Shāʼūl you _ have_ acted_ foolishlynot you _ have_ keptDOM the _ command_ ofYHWH god _ of_ your which he _ commanded _ youif/because now YHWH he _ establishedDOM kingdom _ of_ your to Yisrāʼēl /(Israel) until perpetuity .
14 And _ now kingdom _ of_ your not it _ will_ endureYHWH he _ has_ soughtto _ him/it a _ manaccording _ to _ of_ his _ own_ heartand _ he _ has _ appointed_ himYHWH to _ ruler over people _ of_ his if/because not you _ have_ keptDOM that _ whichhe _ commanded _ youYHWH 15 and _ Shə mūʼēl /(Samuel) _ he/it _ rose_ upand _ he/it _ ascendedfrom (the) _ Gilgāl Giⱱˊāh of _ Binyāmīnand _ Shāʼūl/(Saul) _ he _ musteredDOM the _ people who _ were _ foundwith _ him/it about _ six hundred(s) man .
16 And _ Shāʼūl and _ Yōnātān/(Yə hōnātān/(Jonathan)) his/its _ son and _ the _ people which _ was _ foundwith _ them were _ remainingin _ Geⱱaˊ of _ Binyāmīnand _ the _ Fə lishtiy they _ encampedin _ Mikmāş .
17 And _ he/it _ went_ outthe _ destroyer from _ the _ camp_ ofthe _ Fə lishtiythree companies the _ company one it _ turnedto the _ direction_ ofˊĀfə rāh to the _ land_ ofShūˊāl .
18 And _ the _ company one it _ turnedthe _ direction_ ofBēyt Ḩōrōn and _ the _ company one it _ turnedthe _ direction_ ofthe _ border which _ looks_ down over the _ valley_ ofTsə ⱱoˊīm/(Zeboim) to _ the _ wilderness .
19 and _ a _ craftsmannot he _ was_ foundin _ all _ ofthe _ land_ ofYisrāʼēl /(Israel) if/because they _ said[fn ] [fn ] the _ Fə lishtiylest they _ should_ makethe _ ˊIⱱrī/(Hebrews) a _ swordor a _ spear20 And _ all _ of_ they _ went_ downYisrāʼēl /(Israel) the _ Fə lishtiy to _ each _ man_ sharpen DOM plowshare _ of_ his and _ DOM mattock _ of_ his and _ DOM axe _ of_ his and _ DOM plowshare _ of_ his .
21 And _ it _ wasthe _ charge two _ thirds_ of_ a_ shekelfor _ plowshares and _ for _ mattocks and _ for _ three fork and _ for _ the _ axes and _ to _ make _ straightthe _ goad[s] .

23 And _ the _ garrison_ of_ he/it _ went_ outthe _ Fə lishtiyto the _ pass_ ofMikmāş .
