17:1 Yeshua’s face shines brightly

(Mark 9:2-13, Luke 9:28-36)

17After six days, Yeshua took Peter, and Yacob and his brother Yohan, and they went up a high hill by themselves, 2and Yeshua was changed in front of them so that his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Then look, Mosheh and Eliyah appeared and they could see them talking with Yeshua. 4Then Peter spoke up and said to Yeshua, “Master, it’s good that we’re here. If you want, I could make three shelters here: one for you and one for Mosheh and one for Eliyah.”

5[ref]While he was still speaking, a bright cloud came over the top of them and wow, a voice came out of the cloud saying, “This is my dear son that I get great pleasure from. Just listen to him.”

6When the three apprentices heard the voice, they lay face down and were extremely scared. 7But Yeshua went across to them, and touching them he said, “Get up now and don’t be afraid, 8and when they looked around, they didn’t see anyone other than Yeshua himself.

9As they started heading down the hill, Yeshua instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you saw until after humanity’s child comes back to life.

10[ref]So his apprentices asked him, “Why do the religious teachers say that Eliyah has to come before the messiah?”

11In a way, Eliyah is coming” he said, “and he will restore everything. 12[ref]But I’m also telling you that in another way, Eliyah already came and they didn’t recognise him, but they mistreated him just however they wanted, and humanity’s child will suffer from their actions like that too.

13Then the apprentices realised that he was talking to them about Yohan-the-immerser.

17And after six days, the Yaʸsous is_taking the Petros, and Yakōbos/(Yaˊₐqoⱱ), and Yōannaʸs, the brother of_him, and he_is_bringing_up them into a_ high _mountain by themselves.
2And he_was_transformed before them, and the face of_him shined as the sun, and the clothes of_him became white as the light.
3And see, Mōsaʸs/(Mosheh) and Aʸlias/(ʼĒliyyāh) was_seen to_them conversing_with with him.
4And the Petros answering, said to_ the _Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa):
master, it_is good us to_be here.
If you_are_wanting, I_will_be_making three tents here, one for_you, and one for_Mōsaʸs, and one for_Aʸlias.
5Him still speaking, see, a_ bright _cloud overshadowed them, and see, a_voice out_of the cloud saying:
This is the son of_me, the beloved in whom I_took_pleasure, be_hearing from_him.
6And having_heard it, the apprentices/followers fell on face of_them and they_were_ exceedingly _afraid.
7And the Yaʸsous approached and having_touched against_them he_said:
Be_raised and be_ not _fearing.
8And having_lifted_up the eyes of_them, they_saw no_one except only Yaʸsous not/lest himself.
9And them coming_down from the mountain, the Yaʸsous commanded to_them saying, you_all_may_tell the vision To_no_one, until of_which the son of_ the _man may_rise_up from the_dead.
10And the apprentices/followers of_him asked him saying:
Why therefore are_ the scribes _saying that Aʸlias it_is_fitting to_come first?
11And he answering said:
Aʸlias on_one_hand is_coming and will_be_restoring all things,
12on_the_other_hand I_am_saying to_you_all that Aʸlias/(ʼĒliyyāh) already came and they_ not _knew him, but they_did with him as_much_as they_wanted.
Thus also the son of_ the _man is_going to_be_suffering by them.
13Then the apprentices/followers understood that he_spoke to_them concerning Yōannaʸs the immerser.

17:14 Yeshua drives a demon out of a boy

(Mark 9:14-29, Luke 9:37-43a)

14When they got back to the crowd, a man approached Yeshua and knelt down before him 15saying, “Master, show mercy to my son, because he has seizures and isn’t well, often falling into the fire or the water. 16I brought him to your apprentices, but they weren’t able to heal him.”

17Oh you unbelieving and depraved generation,Yeshua answered, “how much longer will I have to be with you all? How much longer can I tolerate you all? Bring your son here to me. 18Then Yeshua rebuked the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed that very hour.

19Later the apprentices went by themselves to Yeshua and asked him how come they hadn’t been able to drive away the demon.

20[ref]It’s because your faith is so small,” he told them, “because I can assure you that if your faith was a big as a mustard seed, you’d be able to command a mountain to move and it would move, and then there’d be nothing that you all couldn’t do.

14And of_having_come to the crowd, a_man approached to_him kneeling before_him 15and saying:
master, show_mercy to_the son of_me, because he_is_being_epileptic and is_having sickly, because/for often he_is_falling into the fire, and often into the water.
16And I_brought him to_the apprentices/followers of_you, and they_were_ not _able to_heal him.
17And the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) answering said:
Oh unbelieving generation and having_been_perverted, until when will_ I _be with you_all?
Until when will_I_be_tolerating of_you_all?
Be_bringing him here to_me.
18And the Yaʸsous gave_rebuke to_it, and the demon came_out from him, and the boy was_healed from the that hour.
19Then the apprentices/followers having_approached by themselves to_ the _Yaʸsous said:
for_ Why _reason we were_ not _able to_throw_ it _out?
20And he is_saying to_them:
Because_of the little_faith of_you_all.
For/Because truly I_am_saying to_you_all, if you_all_may_be_having faith as a_seed of_mustard, you_all_will_be_saying to_ the this _mountain:
Move from_here to_there, and it_will_be_moving, and nothing will_be_unattaining for_you_all.

17:21 Yeshua speaks again about his forthcoming death

(Mark 9:30-32, Luke 9:43b-45)

21 22Another time when they were all together in Galilee, Yeshua told them, “Humanity’s child is going to be handed over to the people, 23and they’re going to kill him and then he’ll come back to life on the third day. Those listening were very upset.

21 22And them being_gathered in the Galilaia/(Gālīl), the Yaʸsous said to_them:
The son of_ the _man is_going to_be_being_given_over into the_hands of_people,
23and they_will_be_killing_ him _off, and on_the third day he_will_be_being_raised.
And they_were_ exceedingly _sorrowed.

17:24 Paying the temple tax

24[ref]Then when they got to Capernaum, the tax-collectors collecting the poll tax approached Peter and asked him, “Isn’t your teacher going to pay the tax?”

25“Yes, he will.” replied Peter.

Then when he went inside the house, before he could say anything Yeshua asked him, “What do you think, Simon? Do earthly kings extract taxes from their own children, or from strangers?

26“From strangers,” answered Peter.

So surely the children are exempt?”, Yeshua responded, 27but so that we don’t offend them, go down to the lake and throw in a line. Pull out the first fish that you hook, and when you open its mouth, you’ll find a coin that’ll be enough to pay the tax for both of us.

24And them having_come to Kafarnaʼoum, the ones receiving the two_drachmas approached to_ the _Petros and said:
The teacher of_you_all is_ not _paying the two_drachmas?
25He_is_saying:
Yes.
And having_come into the house, the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) preceded him saying:
What is_supposing to_you, Simōn?
The kings of_the earth are_receiving revenues or poll_tax from whom_all?
From the sons of_them or from the strangers?
26the Petros is_saying to_him From the strangers.
And he_having_said:
From the strangers, the Yaʸsous was_saying to_him:
Consequently surely the_free ones are the sons.
27But in_order_that we_may_ not _offend them, having_been_gone to sea, throw a_fish_hook and take_up the first fish having_gone_up, and having_opened_up the mouth of_it, you_will_be_finding a_stater, having_taken that, give to_them for me and you.
