First collection/Wicked and godly roads

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Literal Version

First collection

(Songs 1–41)

1:1 Wicked and godly roads

1Any person who doesn’t take advice from wicked people,

and doesn’t stand by the path that sinners use,

and doesn’t sit and join all the scoffers,

will reap the benefits.

2On the contrary, they enjoy Yahweh’s instructions

and think about them day and night.

3Those people are like trees that are planted by a stream[ref]

and which produce fruit in season.

Their leaves don’t wither,

and they prosper in everything they do.

4But wicked people won’t prosper

they’re like straw that gets blown away by the wind.

5The wicked people won’t be able to stand when God judges them,

and sinners won’t be able to join in the assembly of all the godly people.

6Because Yahweh knows the path chosen by godly people,

but the path of wicked people will be destroyed.

1How_blessed the_man[fn] who not he_walks in/on/at/with_advice of_wicked_[people] and_in/on/at/with_way of_sinners not he_stands and_in/on/at/with_seat of_mockers not he_sits.
2If/because (if) in/on/at/with_law of_YHWH delight_his and_in/on/at/with_law_his he_meditates by_day and_night.
3And_it_was like_tree planted at streams of_water which fruit_its it_gives in/on/at/with_season_its and_leaf_its not it_withers and_all/each/any/every that he_does it_succeeds.
4Not [are]_so the_wicked if/because (if) like_the_chaff which drives_away_they wind.
5On/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so not they_will_stand wicked_[people] in/on/at/with_judgement and_sinners in/on/at/with_assembly of_righteous_[people].
6If/because [is]_knowing YHWH [the]_way of_righteous_[people] and_way of_wicked_[people] it_will_perish.

1:1 Note: We read one or more accents in L differently than BHS. Often this notation indicates a typographical error in BHS.
