Literal Version

6:1 Giving to the poor

6[ref]Take care not to only be obeying God in front of others so they’ll think well of you, because if you do, you’ll all certainly get no reward from your father in the heavens.

2So when you’re giving to the poor, don’t make a big display of it like the hypocrites do in the meeting halls and in the streets so they’ll get the people’s praises. I can assure you that they’ve already received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving will be private, yet your father who sees everything you do will give back to you.

6Be_taking_heed not to_be_practicing the righteousness of_you_all before the people, in_order that to_be_seen by_them, and if not, surely you_all_are_having no reward with the father of_you_all, who is in the heavens.
2Therefore whenever you_may_be_doing alms, you_may_ not _trumpet before you, as the hypocrites are_doing in the synagogues and in the streets, so_that they_may_be_glorified by the people.
Truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, they_are_receiving_fully the reward of_them.
3But of_you doing alms, not let_know the left hand of_you what the right hand of_you is_doing, 4so_that the alms of_you may_be in the secret, and the father of_you, the one seeing in the secret, will_be_giving_back to_you.

6:5 Teaching about praying

(Luke 11:2-4)

5[ref]Whenever you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray in the meeting halls and on street corners so everyone will notice them. I can assure you that they’ve already received their reward in full. 6Instead when you pray, go into a private room and shut the door, then pray to your father who’s not visible to you. Then your father who sees everything will reward you.

7And when you do pray, don’t babble away like other religions who think they’ll be listened to just because of the number of their prayers. 8There’s no need to be like them because God your father already knows your needs before you even ask him. 9So pray like this:

Our father in the heavens

May we always honour your name.

10We want your kingdom to come,

and for your plans to be fulfilled here on earth just like they are in heaven.

11Give us everything we need today

12and write-off what we owe you

as we also write-off what others owe us.

13Don’t bring us to the point of being tempted

but keep us away from doing evil things.

14[ref]Because if you all forgive other people’s wrongs, then your heavenly father will also forgive your wrongs. 15But if you all don’t forgive other people’s wrongs, then your father won’t forgive your wrongs either.

5And whenever you_may_be_praying, you_all_will_ not _be like the hypocrites, because they_are_loving to_be_praying in the synagogues and having_stood on the corners of_the roads, so_that they_may_be_seen by_the people.
Truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, they_are_receiving_fully the reward of_them.
6But you whenever you_may_be_praying, come_in into the private_room of_you and having_shut the door of_you, pray to_the father of_you, who is in the secret, and the father of_you, the one seeing in the secret, will_be_giving_back to_you.
7And praying, you_all_may_ not _babble as the pagans for they_are_supposing that in the many_messages of_them they_will_be_being_listened_to.
8Therefore you_all _may_ not _be_likened to_them, because/for the god the father of_you_all has_known what things you_all_are_having need before the time you_all to_request him.
9Therefore you_all be_praying thus:
father of_us, the one in the heavens, let_ the name of_you _be_sanctified.
10/Let/_ the kingdom of_you _come, let_be_ the will of_you _become, on earth also as in heaven.
11Give to_us today the the daily_needed bread of_us.
12And forgive to_us the debts of_us, as we also forgave to_the debtors of_us.
13And you_may_ not _carry_in us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil.
14For/Because if you_all_may_forgive to_ the _people the transgressions of_them, the the heavenly father of_you_all will_ also _be_forgiving to_you_all.
15But if you_all_may_ not _forgive to_ the _people the transgressions of_them, neither will_ the father of_you_all _be_forgiving the transgressions of_you_all.

6:16 Teaching about fasting

16Whenever you all are abstaining from food, don’t look miserable like the hypocrites because they intentionally try to look awful so that everyone will notice that they’re fasting. I can assure you that they’ve already received their reward in full. 17Instead when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face 18so that no one will realise that you’re fasting other than your father who’s not visible to you. Then your father who sees everything will reward you.

16And whenever you_all_may_be_fasting, be_ not _becoming downthrow like the hypocrites, because/for they_are_disfiguring the appearances of_them, so_that they_may_be_seen by_the people fasting.
Truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, they_are_receiving_fully the reward of_them.
17But you fasting, anoint the head of_you and wash the face of_you, 18so_that you _may_ not _be_seen by_the people fasting, but to_the father of_you who is in the secret, and the father of_you, the one seeing in the secret, will_be_giving_back to_you.

6:19 Wealth in heaven

(Luke 12:33-34)

19[ref]Don’t amass wealth for yourselves here on earth where insects and corrosion destroy things and where it can be stolen. 20Instead store your wealth in heaven where there’s no insects or corrosion or thieves or scammers, 21because wherever your wealth is, your values will also be focussed there.

19Be_ not _storing_up treasures on the earth for_you_all, where moth and corrosion is_destroying, and where thieves are_digging_through and are_stealing, 20but be_storing_up for_you_all treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor corrosion is_destroying, and where thieves are_ not _digging_through nor are_stealing.
21For/Because where the treasure of_you is, the heart of_you will_be there also.

6:22 The eyes

(Luke 11:34-36)

22Your eyes are the body’s lamps, so if your eyes are healthy, then your entire body will be bright. 23But if your eyes are evil, your entire body will be dark.

22The lamp of_the body is the eye.
Therefore if the eye of_you may_be healthy, the whole body of_you will_be bright.
23But if the eye of_you may_be evil, all the body of_you will_be dark.
Therefore if the light which in you is darkness, how_great is the darkness.

6:24 God and wealth

(Luke 16:13)

24No one can serve two masters because he’ll either hate one and like the other one, or else will be supporting one and despising the other, so you all can’t serve both God and money.

25So that’s why I’m telling you not to worry about your worldly life—things like what you’ll all eat or drink, or how you look and what you’ll dress in. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Think about the birds in the sky—they don’t plant seeds or harvest crops or gather grain into barns, but it’s your heavenly father who feeds them. Aren’t each of you worth more than them? 27Who can add an hour to their lifetime by worrying?

28Why would you be worrying about clothes? Look how the flowers grow in the fields—they don’t work or make fabric, 29[ref]but I can tell you that not even King Solomon at the peak of his reign was dressed at well as the flowers. 30So if God dresses the plants in the fields that are here today and thrown away tomorrow, won’t he care much more for you, you people with little faith.

31That means that you all don’t need to worry about having anything to eat or drink, or having some clothes to wear. 32People with no trust in God are trying to obtain all those things, but your heavenly father already knows that you need these things. 33So instead you should be striving to enter God’s kingdom and to be guiltless in his eyes, and then all these other things will just follow. 34Don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow can worry about itself—today’s problems are enough by themselves.

24No_one is_able to_be_serving for_two masters, because/for either he_will_be_hating the one and he_will_be_loving the other, or he_will_be_upholding of_the_one and he_will_be_despising of_the other.
You_all_are_ not _being_able to_be_serving for_god and money.
25Because_of this I_am_saying to_you_all, be_ not _worrying for_the life of_you_all, what you_all_may_eat or what you_all_may_drink, nor for_the body of_you_all what you_all_may_dress_in.
Not the life is more than the food, and the body than the clothing?
26Consider on the birds of_the sky, that they_are_ neither _sowing, nor are_they_reaping, nor are_they_gathering_together into barns, and the the heavenly father of_you_all is_feeding them, are_ not you_all _carrying_value more than them?
27And who of you_all worrying is_able to_add one hour to the lifespan of_him?
28And about clothing why are_you_all_worrying?
Observe how the lilies of_the field are_growing, they_are_ not _labouring nor are_they_spinning,
29but I_am_saying to_you_all that not_even Solomōn/(Shəlmoh) in all the glory of_him clothed like one of_these.
30But if the god is_ thus _dressing the grass of_the field being today, and tomorrow being_thrown into the_furnace, not by_much more for_you_all, little_faith ones?
31Therefore you_all_may_ not _worry saying:
What may_we_eat, or:
What may_we_drink, or:
What may_we_clothed?
32For/Because the pagans are_seeking_after all these things, because/for the the heavenly father of_you_all has_known that you_all_are_needing of_ all _these things.
33But be_seeking first the kingdom and the righteousness of_him, and all these things will_be_being_added to_you_all.
34Therefore you_all_may_ not _worry for the_ next _day, because/for the_ next _day will_be_worrying about_itself.
The evil of_it sufficient to_the day is.
