5:1 Yeshua’s sermon on the hillside

5 After seeing all the crowds, Yeshua climbed up a hill, and when he sat down, his apprentices approached him 2 and he taught them:

3 “Those who are poor in the spirit are blessed, because the kingdom of the heavens is theirs.

4 [ref]“Those who are mourning are blessed, because they will be comforted.

5 [ref]“Those who are gentle are blessed, because they will inherit the earth.

6 [ref]“Those who are hungry and thirsty to obey God are blessed, because they will be satisfied.

7 “Those who are merciful are blessed, because they will receive mercy.

8 [ref]“Those who have pure hearts are blessed, because they will see God.

9 “Those who are peacemakers are blessed, because they will be called children of God.

10 [ref]“Those who are persecuted for being godly are blessed, because the kingdom of heavens belongs to them.

11 [ref]“Everyone who is derided or chased or lied about is blessed, along with those who have evil things said about them just because they follow me. 12 [ref]Be happy and praising God because you’ll all have a wonderful reward in the heavens, because in the past they also persecuted the prophets like that.

5 And having _seen the crowds, he _went _up on the mountain, and him having _sat _down, the apprentices/followers of _him approached to _him.
2 And having _opened _up the mouth of _him, he _was _teaching them saying, 3 Blessed are the poor in _the spirit, because to _them is the kingdom of _the heavens.
4 Blessed are the ones mourning, because they will _be _being _comforted.
5 Blessed are the gentle, because they will _be _inheriting the earth.
6 Blessed are the ones hungering and thirsting the for _righteousness, because they will _be _being _satisfied.
7 Blessed are the merciful, because they will _be _being _shown _mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure the in _heart, because they will _be _seeing the god.
9 Blessed are the peacemaking, because they will _be _being _called sons of_god.
10 Blessed are the ones having _been _persecuted on _account righteousness, because to _them is the kingdom of _the heavens.
11 Blessed are _you _all whenever they _may _deride you _all and may _pursue and lying, they _may _say all evil against you _all on _account of _me.
12 Be _rejoicing and be _exulting, because the reward of _you _all is great in the heavens, because/for thus they _persecuted the prophets which before you _all.

5:13 Being salt and light

(Mark 9:50, Luke 14:34-35)

13 [ref]“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt is made tasteless, what would you all use to salt your food? The salt wouldn’t be useful for anything anymore and would just get thrown out and trampled on by the people.

14 [ref]“You are the light of the world. A city up on a hill can’t be hidden. 15 [ref]No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket—you put it on a lampstand and it lightens up the house. 16 [ref]In the same way, let your light shine in front of everyone, so that they can see your good behaviour and then might praise your father in the heavens.

13 You _all are the salt of _the earth, but if the salt may _be _made _tasteless, with what it _will _be _being _salted?
It _is _being _effective for nothing anymore, except not/lest having _been _throw out, to _be _being _trampled by the people.
14 You _all are the light of _the world.
A_city lying on a_mountain is_ not _able to _be _hidden.
15 And _not they _are _lighting a_lamp and are _putting it under the a_basket, but on the lampstand, and it _is _shining for _all the ones in the house.
16 Thus let_ the light of _you _all _shine before the people, so _that they _may _see the good works of _you _all, and may _glorify the father of _you _all which in the heavens.

5:17 Mosheh’ law won’t be broken

17 “Don’t imagine that I came to criticise the prophets or Mosheh’ law. I didn’t come to oppose the scriptures, but to fulfil them, 18 [ref]because I can assure you all that until heaven and earth reach their end, not one letter or mark will be taken away from the law until everything is fulfilled. 19 Therefore anyone who breaks even a minor commandment and teaches others to do the same, will be seen as one of the least in the kingdom of the heavens, but anyone who practices and teaches the law will be considered outstanding in the kingdom. 20 Let me tell all of you, unless you’re more godly than the teachers of the law and the Pharisees, there’s no way that you’ll get to enter the kingdom of the heavens.

17 You _all _may_ not _think that I _came to _tear _down the law or the prophets, I _came not to _tear _down, but to _fulfill.
18 For/Because truly I _am _saying to _you _all, until the heaven and the earth wishfully may _pass _away, one Iota or one serif by _no _means may_ not _pass _away from the law, until wishfully all things may _become.
19 Therefore if whoever may _break the least one of _these of _the commands, and may _teach the people thus, will _be _being _called least in the kingdom of _the heavens, but whoever wishfully may _practice and may _teach, this one will _be _being _called great in the kingdom of _the heavens.
20 For/Because I _am _saying to _you _all that if the righteousness of _you _all not may _be _plentiful more of _the scribes and Farisaios_party, by _no _means you _all _may_ not _come _in into the kingdom of _the heavens.

5:21 Teaching about murder and anger

21 [ref]“You all heard that your ancestors were told not to murder because any murderer will be sentenced. 22 But I’m telling you that anyone who gets angry at another will be liable for judgement, and anyone who calls another person a numbskull will have to face the court, and if you call them a fool, you’re liable for hellfire. 23 So if you’re there at the altar to offer your gift and remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your gift there at the altar and go and sort that out first, before coming back to offer your gift.

25 “Resolve things with your opponent as soon as you can, hopefully while you’re still on the way to the court, in case your opponent turns you in to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and then you’ll end up in prison. 26 I can assure you that you won’t get out of prison until the fine is completely paid.

21 You _all _heard that it _was _said to _the ancients:
You will_ not _be _murdering, and whoever, wishfully may _murder, will _be liable to _the judgment.
22 But I am _saying to _you _all that everyone which being _angered by _the brother of _him, will _be liable to _the judgment, and whoever wishfully may _say to _the brother of _him:
Raca, will _be liable to _the council, and whoever wishfully may _say:
Foolish, will _be liable to the geenna of_ the _fire.
23 Therefore if you _may _be _offering the gift of _you at the altar, and _there you _may _be _reminded that the brother of _you is _having something against you, 24 leave the gift of _you there before the altar.
And be _going _away, first be _reconciled to _the brother of _you, and then having _come, be _offering the gift of _you.
25 Be agreeing with _the opponent of _you quickly, as _long _as which you _are with him on the way, lest the opponent may _give_ you _over to _the judge, and the judge to _the attendant, and you _will _be _being _thrown into prison.
26 Truly I _am _saying to _you, by _no _means you _may_ not _come _out from _there, until wishfully you _may _give _back the last quadran.

5:27 Teaching about adultery and lust

27 [ref]“You all know that the scriptures say not to commit adultery, 28 but I’m telling you that if you look at a woman lustfully then you’ve already committed adultery in your mind. 29 [ref]If your right eye is causing you to stumble, then pluck it out and throw it away 30 [ref]

27 You _all _heard that it _was _said:
You will_ not _be _committing _adultery.
28 But I am _saying to _you _all that everyone which looking at_a_woman in _order that to _lust for _her, already committed _adultery with _her in the heart of _him.
29 And if the the right eye of _you is _stumbling you, pluck_ it _out and throw it from you, because/for it _is _benefitting for _you that one of _the members of _you may _perish, and not all the body of _you may _be _thrown into geenna.
30 And if the right hand of _you is _stumbling you, cut _off it and throw it from you, because/for it _is _benefitting for _you that one of _the members of _you may _perish, and not all the body of _you may _go _away into geenna.

5:31 Teaching about divorce

(Mat. 19:9, Mark 10:11-12, Luke 16:18)

31 [ref]“It’s said that any man can divorce his wife just by sending her away. 32 [ref]But I’m telling you all that anyone who sends his wife away, except in the case where she’s committed sexual immorality, is causing her to commit adultery, and anyone who marries a wife that’s been sent away, is causing her to be committing adultery.

31 And it _was _said:
Whoever wishfully may _send _away the wife of _him, let _him _give divorce to _her.
32 But I am _saying to _you _all that everyone which sending _away the wife of _him, except on _account of _sexual _immorality, is _making her to _be _committing _adultery, and whoever may _marry if having _been _sent_ her _away, is _causing _adultery.

5:33 Teaching about oaths and honesty

33 [ref]“Also you’ve heard that it was said to our ancestors that you shouldn’t break your oath, but you must do whatever you promised to the master. 34 [ref]But I’m telling you not to make oaths in the first place—don’t swear by heaven because it’s God’s throne, 35 [ref]nor by the earth because it’s God’s footrest, nor by Jerusalem because it’s the supreme king’s city. 36 And don’t swear by your own strength because you can’t even make one strand of hair grow a different colour. 37 Just say ‘yes’ when you commit to doing something, and ‘no’ when you don’t, because going beyond that is actually evil.

33 Again you _all _heard that it _was _said to _the ancients:
You will_ not _be _perjuring, but you _will _be _giving _back to _the master the oaths of _you.
34 But I am _saying to _you _all not to_ actually _swear, neither by the heaven, because it _is the_throne of_ the _god, 35 nor by the earth, because it _is the_footstool of _the feet of _him, nor in Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim), because it _is the_city of _the great king, 36 nor may _you _swear by the head of _you, because you _are_ not _being _able to _make one hair white.

37 But let _be the statement of _you _all, yes be yes, no be no, and the additional than these things is from the evil.

5:38 Teaching about being taken advantage of

(Luke 6:29-30)

38 [ref]“You’ve all heard it said that it’s an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, 39 but I’m telling you not to resist those who want to hurt you. If someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn your left cheek towards them, 40 and to the person suing you in court and claiming your robe, let them have your coat as well. 41 And if someone forces you to walk a mile, walk two miles with them. 42 Give whatever others request from you and don’t turn away from anyone who wants to borrow from you.

38 You _all _heard that it _was _said:
Eye for an_eye and tooth for a_tooth.
39 But I am _saying to _you _all, not to _resist against _the evil, but whoever is _slapping you you on the right cheek, of _you turn to _him also the other, 40 and to _the one willing you to _be _judged and to _take the tunic of _you, allow your coat to _him also, 41 and whoever will _be _compelling you one mile, be _going with him two.
42 Give to _the one requesting you, and you _may_ not _be _turned _away to _the one wanting to _borrow from you.

5:43 Love your enemies

(Luke 6:27-28)

43 “You’ve all heard it said it said that you should love your neighbour and hate your enemy, 44 but I’m telling you all to love your enemies and to pray for anyone who’s persecuting you, 45 so that all of you might become children of your father in the heavens, because he causes his sun to rise on both evil and good people and sends the rain for both godly and ungodly people. 46 If you all just love people who love you, what reward would you expect for that? Don’t the tax collectors even do that? 47 And if you’re only polite to your own circle, how is that achieving anything? Aren’t non-Jews just the same? 48 [ref]Instead you all should aim to be perfect just like your heavenly father is perfect.
