14:12 Yeshua’s trainees prepare the Passover meal

(Yhn 13:21-30, Mat. 26:17-25, Luke 22:7-14)

12On the first day of the Flat Bread Celebration when the lambs would be slaughtered ready for the special Passover meal, Yeshua’s trainees asked him, “Where do you want us to get everything ready for our Passover meal?”

13So Yeshua sent off two of them with these instructions, “Go into town and a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you there. Just follow him 14until he goes into a house. Then find the owner of the house and tell him that the teacher wants to know the location of the guestroom where he and his trainees can celebrate the Passover meal. 15He’ll show you a large, furnished room upstairs—that’s where you can get everything ready.

16So the two of them went off into the town, and everything happened there exactly as Yeshua had told them, and so they prepared the special meal there.

13:21 Yeshua indicates who will hand him over

(Mat. 26:20-25, Mark 14:17-21, Luke 22:21-23)

21After saying these things, Yeshua thoughts were troubled and he said, “I can assure you that one of you will be turning me in.

22This made his apprentices glance around at each other, puzzled about which one he was talking about. 23One of them that Yeshua especially liked,[fn] was leaning against him at the table. 24So Simon Peter nodded to him to find out who Yeshua had been talking about, 25and he leaned back on Yeshua and asked quietly, “Master, who is it?”

26It’s the one I hand this piece of bread to after I’ve dipped it in the sauce,Yeshua answered. Then after dipping his piece of bread in, he gave it to Yudas Iscariot. 27After accepting the piece of bread, Satan entered into Yudas, and then Yeshua told him, “What you’re about to do, do it soon.” 28But none of the others sitting around the table knew what Yeshua meant. 29Some of them thought that since Yudas held their purse, perhaps Yeshua was getting him to buy something they needed for the feast or to give something to the poor.

30Anyway, having eaten the piece of bread, Yudas went straight outside where it was already dark.

13:23 This apprentice, unnamed here, is assumed to be the author of this account (being shy or modest).

26:17 Yeshua gets ready to celebrate Passover

(Mark 14:12-21, Luke 22:7-13, Yhn 13:21-30)

17On the first day of the Flat Bread Celebration, the Yeshua’s apprentices approached him and asked, “Where do you want us to prepare the passover meal for you?”

18Go into the city to so-and-so,” answered Yeshua, “and tell him that the teacher said, ‘My time is getting close, but I’ll celebrate the passover meal with you, along with my apprentices.’

19So the apprentices did as Yeshua had instructed them, and then they prepared the passover meal.

20That evening as Yeshua was sitting with the twelve, 21he said to them while they were still eating, “I can assure you that one of you is going to turn me in.

22They were very upset and one by one they asked him, “Surely it won’t be me, master?”

23[ref]It’s the one who dipped his bread into the bowl at the same time as I did,” Yeshua answered. “He’s the one who’s going to turn me in. 24It’s true that humanity’s child is going to suffer what has already been written about, but on the other hand, the end won’t be good for the man who turns him in, in fact it would have been better for him if he’d never been born.

25Surely it won’t be me, honoured teacher?” asked Yudas, the one who would hand him in.[fn]

You said it,” he replied.

22:7 Yeshua organises their Passover dinner

(Yhn 13:21-30, Mark 14:12-21, Mat. 26:17-25)

7Then the day of the flat bread dinner arrived when the Passover celebration is observed. 8Yeshua sent Peter and Yohan, telling them, “Go on ahead and prepare our Passover meal ready for us to eat.

9Where should we prepare it?” they asked. 10Listen,” he said, “go ahead and when you enter the city you’ll meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him into the house that he goes into. 11Then tell the home-owner that the teacher wants to know where the guest room is so that he can eat the Passover meal with his followers 12and he’ll show you a large upper room that’s already set-up. That’s where you should prepare the meal. 13So the two of them went on ahead and found it exactly like he’d told them, and so they prepared the Passover dinner.

22:13 The cups and the bread at dinner

(Mark 14:22-26, Mat. 26:26-30, 1 Cor. 11:23-25)

14When it was time to eat, Yeshua and his apprentices sat down together

21[ref]However, the one who will turn me in is sitting with me at the table. 22Now, humanity’s child has to endure what’s been previously designated, but on the other hand, it won’t end well for the man who turns him in.

22:22 The apprentices argue about being the greatest

23This got them debating among themselves about which one of them it might be who was going to do that
