TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 106 The Israelite community in exile confessed the Lord’s goodness and justice and their own historic sinfulness. From the humble state of exile, they pleaded for redemption and restoration, asking to be gathered back from all the places the Lord had scattered them in his wrath. The psalm does not end in despair but with the memory of the Lord’s former mercy and the hope that his mercy will be renewed (106:44-48). Israel failed, but the Lord is constant.
• Verses 1, 47-48 (along with Pss 96; 105:1-15) are included in David’s song of praise recorded in 1 Chr 16:1-43.

of your chosen

(Some words not found in UHB: to=see in/on/at/with,prosperity_of chosen_of,your that,rejoice in/on/at/with,joy_of nation_of,your that,glory with inheritance_of,your )

The word “chosen” refers to Yahweh’s chosen people. Alternate translation: “of your chosen people”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

rejoice in the gladness & and glory

(Some words not found in UHB: to=see in/on/at/with,prosperity_of chosen_of,your that,rejoice in/on/at/with,joy_of nation_of,your that,glory with inheritance_of,your )

These are things that David says he will do, along with “seeing the prosperity of your chosen.” The words “I will” may be repeated here. Alternate translation: “I will rejoice in the gladness … and I will glory”

gladness

(Some words not found in UHB: to=see in/on/at/with,prosperity_of chosen_of,your that,rejoice in/on/at/with,joy_of nation_of,your that,glory with inheritance_of,your )

joy, delight

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

glory with your inheritance

(Some words not found in UHB: to=see in/on/at/with,prosperity_of chosen_of,your that,rejoice in/on/at/with,joy_of nation_of,your that,glory with inheritance_of,your )

Here the phrase “your inheritance” refers to the Isrealites, who are Yahweh’s chosen people. Here “glory” means “to boast about” something; in this case they are boasting about Yahweh. Alternate translation: “boast of your greatness with your people” or “boast with your people about you”
