TSNTyndale Study Notes:

5:41-47 Jewish trials sought to discover the truth. Falsely accused defendants could not only prove their innocence but also prosecute their accusers, which Jesus did here.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

ἔστιν ὁ κατηγορῶν ὑμῶν Μωϋσῆς, εἰς ὃν ὑμεῖς ἠλπίκατε

is the_‹one› accusing ˱against˲_you_all Moses in whom you_all /have/_hoped

Moses here could refer to: (1) the person named Moses who gave the Israelites the law of Moses. (2) the law of Moses itself. Alternate translation: “Moses accuses you in the law, the very law in which you have hoped”
