14:1 The terrible drought/famine

14 This is Yahweh’s message to Yirmeyah regarding droughts:

2 Yehudah (Judah) is in mourning and its gates are neglected.

They’re mourning for the land

and Yerushalem is crying out in distress.

3 The leading citizens send their servants out for water,

but when they get to the wells, they didn’t find any.

They return with empty containers—

ashamed and humiliated, and with their heads covered in grief.

4 The ground is cracked open because there hasn’t been any rain.

The farmers are ashamed—they’ve covered their heads in grief,

5 because even the doe in the countryside abandoned her newborn fawn as there was no grass.

6 Wild donkeys stand on bare hills and pant for breath like jackals—

their eyes have failed because there’s no vegetation.

7 Even though our transgressions testify against us,

do something, Yahweh, for the sake of your reputation

because we sinned against you with our frequent rebellion.

8 You are Yisrael’s hope—the one who rescues it at a time of distress.

Why would you act like a stranger in the land—

like a traveller who’s stopped in to stay the night.

3 And_their _noble _of_ones they _have _sent their _of_servants[fn] for_water they _have _come to the_cisterns not they _have _found water vessels _of_their they _have _returned empty they _are _ashamed and_they _are _humiliated and_they _have _covered head _of_their.

5 If/because also a _doe in _the_field it _has _given _birth and_it _has _abandoned if/because not fresh _grass it _is.

7 Though iniquities _of_our they _have _testified against_us Oh_YHWH act for _the _sake _of your(ms)_name if/because they _are _many apostasies _of_our to/for_yourself(m) we _have _sinned.
8 Oh _hope _of Yisrā^ʼēl/(Israel) deliverer _of_its in_a _time _of distress to/for_what are _you like_a _sojourner on _the_earth and_like_a _traveler who_he _has _turned _aside to_spend _the _night.
9 To/for_what are _you like_a _person astounded like_a _warrior who_not he _is _able to_save and_you(ms) are_in_midst _of_our Oh_YHWH and_name _of_your on_us it _is _called do _not abandon_us.
10 thus YHWH he _says of_people the_this thus they _have _loved to_wander feet _of_their not they _have _restrained and_YHWH not he_has _accepted _them now he _will _remember iniquity _of_their and_he _will _punish sins _of_their.
11 and_ YHWH _he/it _said to_me do _not pray for the_people the_this for_good.
12 If/because they _will _fast not_I will _be_listening to of _entreaty _of_their _cry and_because/when they _will _offer _up a _burnt _offering and_a _grain _offering not_I will _of_be_accepting _them if/because by_sword and_by_famine and_by_pestilence I will _be_bringing _to _an _end them.
13 and_I _said alas my_master YHWH HERE the_prophets are_saying to/for_them not you(pl)_will _see sword and_famine not it _will _happen to/for_you(pl) if/because peace _of reliability I _will _give to/for_you(pl) in_place (the)_this.
14 and_ YHWH _he/it _said to_me falsehood the_prophets are_prophesying in_name _of_my not I_sent _them and_not I_appointed _them and_not I _spoke to_them a _vision _of falsehood and_divination and_worthlessness[fn] and_the _deceitfulness _of[fn] their _own _heart _of_their they are_prophesying to_you(pl).
15 for_so/thus/hence thus YHWH he _says on the_prophets who_are_prophesying in_name _of_my and_I not I_sent _them and_they sword are_saying and_famine not it _will _happen on _the_earth (the)_this by_sword and_by_famine they _will _meet _their _end the_prophets (the)_those.
16 And_the_people whom they are_prophesying to/for_them they _will _be thrown _out in_the _streets _of Yərūshālam/(Jerusalem) from_face/in _front _of the_famine and_the_sword and_there_will_not_be one _who_buries for_them them wives _of_their and_sons _of_their and_daughters _of_their and_I _will _pour _out on_them DOM wickedness _of_their.
17 And_you _will _speak to_them DOM the_message the_this let _them _run _down eyes _of_my tear[s] night and_by _day and_not let _them _cease if/because a _breaking great the _virgin _of she _has _been _broken of _the _daughter _of my _people _of_my a _wound severe very.
