This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.
16:1 The massive shock at the burial chamber
16 After the Rest Day was over, Maria from Magdala and Maria the mother of Yacob and Salome, went and bought some traditional burial spices that evening to take to the burial chamber and place with the body. 2 Then very early on Sunday morning they went to the chamber, arriving just as the sun was rising. 3 But they realised that they didn’t have anyone with them to roll the rock away that was covering the entrance. 4 However, when they looked they saw that the very large rock had already been rolled away. 5 So they went on into the burial chamber and were totally stunned to find a young man dressed in white, sitting in there on the side.
6 He assured them, “Don’t be surprised. I know you’re looking for Yeshua from Nazareth, the one who was executed on a pole. But see there where his body was—he’s not there because he came back to life. 7 [ref]So you three should go and tell his trainees, and Peter in particular, that he’s going to go up ahead of them to Galilee and you’ll all see him up there, just as he already told you.”
8 So they left the chamber and took off running, still stunned and shaking and too scared to stop and to talk to anyone. It’s not certain whether or not the following longer ending of this document was actually penned by Mark, or whether it was appended slightly later. Expert scholars are divided on this, and hence it’s included here for your consideration:
20:1 The body is missing from the chamber
20 The following Sunday, Maria from Magdala went out to the tomb very early when it was still dark, and she saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she ran quickly and went to Simon Peter and the other intern that Yeshua loved, and told them, “They’ve taken the master’s body out of the tomb and we don’t know where they’ve put it.”
3 So Peter and the other intern went out to the tomb. 4 They were running together, but the other intern was a bit faster than Peter and so he got to the tomb first. 5 Without going in, he stooped down at the entrance and looked in and saw the linen strips lying there. 6 But Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb and also saw the linen strips lying there. 7 But the piece of cloth that had been on the head wasn’t lying there with the linen strips, but had been folded and placed separately. 8 So now the other intern who had arrived first also went inside and he saw it all and believed that Yeshua had risen. 9 (At that time they weren’t yet aware of the scripture about him coming back to life.) 10 So they went back again to their homes.
28:1 The women encounter the messenger and then meet Yeshua
28 After the days of rest during the first light of Sunday morning, Maria from Magdala and the other Maria went out to visit the tomb. 2 Then, wow, there was a massive earthquake because one of the master’s messengers had come down from heaven and approached the tomb. He had rolled away the stone and was now sitting on it. 3 He looked as if you were watching lightning and his clothes were extremely white. 4 The guards at the tomb shook with fear when they saw him and then they fainted.
5 Then the messenger spoke to the women, “Don’t be scared because I know that both of you are looking for Yeshua who was executed on a stake. 6 He isn’t here, because he came back to life just like he said he would. Go inside and see the place where his body was lying 7 and then leave straight away and go and tell his followers that he has come alive again and will go ahead of you all to Galilee. You’ll see him when you get there. Listen, I’ve told you now.”
8 So they went off quickly with a mixture of fear and incredible happiness, and ran back to tell Yeshua’s followers.
24 but as soon as it dawned on Sunday morning, they went back to the tomb taking the prepared spices. 2 There they discovered that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance 3 and when they went in, the body of the master Yeshua wasn’t there. 4 While they were still there puzzling about what might have happened, two men in dazzling clothes approached them. 5 The women were scared, and knelt down and bowed with their faces close to the ground, but the men asked them, “Why are you looking for the living in the place of the dead? 6 [ref]He’s not here—he’s been brought back to life. Remember how he spoke to you all when you were still in Galilee 7 and he said, ‘It’s necessary that humanity’s child is handed over to sinful people, and to be executed on a stake, and then to come back to life on the third day.’ ” 8 Then indeed they remembered his words.
9 Then they left the tomb and went back into the city and reported all this to the eleven apprentices and all the others. 10 (The women who told this to the missionaries were Maria from Magdala, Yoanna, Maria the mother of Yacob, and the other women who were with them.) 11 However those who heard it, thought it was all just nonsense and didn’t believe them. 12 But Peter stood up and ran off to the tomb, and when he stooped down to look in, he could only see the linen cloths, so he wandered off by himself, wondering what could have happened.
Mat 26:32:
32 [ref]But after I come back to life, I’ll go to Galilee ahead of you all.”
Mrk 14:28:
28 [ref]But after I come back to life, I’ll go on ahead of you back to Galilee.”
Mrk 8:31:
8:31 Yeshua’s radical challenge to his would-be followers
31 Then Yeshua began teaching his followers that humanity’s child would need to suffer a lot, to be rejected by the religious leaders, and so to be put to death but to come back to life after three days.
9:31:
31 while he was teaching his apprentices. He told them, “Humanity’s child will be arrested and executed, but after three days he’ll come back to life.”
10:33-34:
33 “We’re on our way down to Yerushalem and humanity’s child will be turned over to the chief priests and the religious teachers, and they’ll sentence him to die and pass him over to the non-Jews. 34 Then they’ll ridicule him and spit on him before they beat him and execute him, but he’ll come back to life again in three days time.”
Mat 16:21:
16:21 Yeshua talks about future suffering and death
21 From that time onwards, Yeshua began showing his apprentices that he needed to go to Yerushalem and to suffer at the hands of the elders and chief priests and teachers of the law there, before being executed and then coming back to life on the third day.
17:22-23:
22 Another time when they were all together in Galilee, Yeshua told them, “Humanity’s child is going to be handed over to the people, 23 and they’re going to kill him and then he’ll come back to life on the third day.” Those listening were very upset.
20:18-19:
18 “Listen, we’re going to Yerushalem and humanity’s child will be handed over to the chief priests and the religious teachers, and they will condemn him to death 19 and hand him over to the non-Jews to be mocked and flogged and executed on a stake, and then on the third day he will come back to life.”
Luk 9:22:
22 saying, “Humanity’s child is destined to suffer many things and to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the religious teachers, and then to be executed and to be brought back to life on the third day.”
18:31-33:
18:31 Yeshua predicts his execution a third time
31 Then taking the twelve aside, Yeshua told them, “Listen, we’re about to go down to Yerushalem and everything that the prophets wrote about humanity’s child will soon happen. 32 He’ll be handed over to non-Jews and will be mocked and insulted and spat on, 33 then they’ll flog him and kill him, but he’ll come back to life on the third day.”
