Readers’ Version

Literal Version

59Listen, don’t think that Yahweh can’t rescue you,

≈ or that he won’t be able to hear you.

2However, your disobedience causes separation between you all and your god,

≈ and your sins have made him turn away from listening to you,

3because your hands are defiled with blood,

≈ and your fingers with sin.

Your lips spew out lies

and your tongue works against justice.

4No one stands up for justice,

and no one pleads their case truthfully.

They rely on being meaningless, or fancy words of no value

conceiving mischief and advancing wickedness.

5They hatch vipers’ eggs

and weave spiders’ webs

Anyone who eats any of their eggs will die

when they’re cracked open, a viper will be hatched.

6Their weavings aren’t for clothes,

so they don’t cover themselves with their products.

Their products are products of wickedness,

and their hands are involved in violence.

7Their feet run towards evil,

and they’re quick to shed innocent blood.

They’re always thinking about wickedness

they walk the paths of causing ruin and destruction.

8They don’t know the way of peace,

and there’s no justice on their tracks.

They’ve make their paths crooked

none of those who tread on them will experience peace.

59HERE not it_is_too_short the_hand_of YHWH for_saving and_not it_is_too_heavy ear_of_his for_hearing.
2If/because (if) iniquities_of_your(pl) they_have_been separating between_you(pl) and_between god_of_your(pl) and_sins_of_your(pl) they_have_hidden face from_you(pl) from_hearing.
3If/because palms_of_your(pl) they_are_defiled with_blood and_fingers_of_your(pl) with_iniquity lips_of_your(pl) they_have_spoken falsehood tongue_of_your(pl) injustice it_mutters.
4There_is_not one_who_calls in_righteousness and_there_is_not one_who_enters_into_judgement in_truth they_rely on emptiness and_they_speak worthlessness they_conceive mischief and_they_bring_forth wickedness.
5Eggs_of a_viper they_have_hatched and_webs_of a_spider they_weave the_one_who_eats any_of_their_eggs he_will_die and_the_pressed_egg a_snake it_is_hatched.
6Webs_of_their not they_will_become (into)_clothing and_not people_will_cover_themselves with_products_of_their products_of_their are_products_of wickedness and_deed[s]_of violence is_in_palms_of_their.
7Feet_of_their to_evil they_run and_they_hasten to_shed blood innocent thoughts_of_their are_thoughts_of wickedness devastation and_destruction are_on_highways_of_their.
8A_way_of peace not they_know and_there_is_not justice on_tracks_of_their paths_of_their they_have_made_crooked to/for_them any_of one_who_treads on_it not he_knows peace.

9Therefore, justice is far from us

and righteousness doesn’t reach us.

We wait for light, but look, we get darkness.

We wait for gleams of light, but walk in the gloom.

10We grope along the wall like the blind,

and feel around as though we had no eyes.

Even at midday, we stumble as if it’s twilight

among the living but behaving like the dead.

11All of us growl like bears,

≈ and moan mournfully like doves.

We keep hoping for justice, but none comes,

≈ for rescue, but it’s far away

12because our transgressions in front of you are many.

≈ Our sins have testified against us

because our transgressions are with us,

≈ and as for our iniquities, we know them.

13We’ve rebelled and denied Yahweh,

and turned away from following our god

promoting oppression and rebellion instead.

We’ve conceived and told lies as if they were the heart-felt truth.

14Justice is driven right back,

and righteousness stands off at a distance,

because truth has stumbled in the public square,

and honesty can’t enter.

15So then truth went missing,

and the one who turned away from evil got robbed.

Yahweh saw it and wasn’t pleased that there was no justice.

9Therefore yes/correct/thus/so justice it_is_far from_him/it and_not it_reaches_us righteousness we_wait_eagerly to_the_light and_BEHOLD/LO/SEE darkness for_gleams_of_light in_gloom(s) we_walk.
10We_grope_for like_(the)_people a_wall and_like_there_are_not eyes we_grope we_have_stumbled at_noon(s) like_twilight among_people like_who_have]_died.
11We_growl like_bears of_us_of_all and_like_doves mournfully_(moan) we_moan we_wait_eagerly for_justice and_there_is_not for_deliverance it_is_far from_us.
12If/because transgressions_of_our they_are_many before_you and_sins_of_our it_has_testified against_us if/because transgressions_of_our are_with_us and_iniquities_of_our we_know_them.
13We_have_transgressed and_we_have_denied (in)_YHWH and_we_have_turned_back from_after god_of_our we_have_spoken oppression and_rebellion we_have_conceived and_we_have_uttered from_the_heart words/messages_of falsehood.
14And_ backwards _it_has_been_driven_back justice and_righteousness from_a_distance it_stands if/because it_has_stumbled in_place truth and_straightforwardness not it_is_able to_enter.
15And_it_became (the)_truth missing and_one_who_turned_aside from_evil was_plundered and_ YHWH _he/it_saw and_it_was_displeasing in_eyes_of_his (cmp) there_was_not justice.

16Yahweh saw that there wasn’t anyone to make a stand,

and was appalled that there was no one to intervene.

So he applied his own power to bring salvation,

and his own desire to do what’s right, sustained him.[ref]

17He put righteousness on like armour,

≈ and a helmet of salvation on his head.[ref]

He dressed in clothes of vengeance

≈ and wrapped himself with zeal like a robe.

18He will repay his enemies for the evil things that they have done.

He will repay the islands with the appropriate reward.

19Then those in the west will respect Yahweh’s reputation,

≈ and in the east, will respect his splendour,

→ because he’ll come like a swift river with Yahweh’s wind driving it.

20Then a redeemer will come to Tsiyyon (Zion)

≈ and to those descendants of Yakov (Jacob) who repent of their disobedience.

That’s what Yahweh declares.

21Then Yahweh says:

This is my agreement with them.

My spirit which is on you and my messages that I’ve put in your mouth,

they won’t leave your mouth or the mouths of your descendants,

even the distant generations from now and forever onwards.

That is Yahweh’s declaration.

16And_he/it_saw if/because_that there_was_not anyone and_he_was_appalled if/because_that there_was_not one_who_interposed and_it_gave_victory to_him/it arm_of_his_own and_his_own_of_righteousness it it_sustained_him.
17And_he_put_on righteousness like_(the)_armour and_a_helmet_of salvation on_head_of_his and_he_put_on garments_of vengeance clothing and_he_wrapped_himself like_robe zeal.
18As_on deeds as_on he_will_repay rage to_foes_of_his recompense to_enemies_of_his to_islands recompense he_will_repay.
19And_people_will_fear from_the_setting_place DOM the_name_of YHWH and_from_the_rising_of the_sun DOM glory_of_his if/because he_will_come like_river narrow which_(the)_wind_of YHWH it_will_drive in_him/it.
20And_he_will_come to_Tsiyyōn/(Zion) a_redeemer and_to_those_who_repent_of transgression in_Yaˊₐqoⱱ/(Jacob) the_utterance_of YHWH.
21And_I this covenant_of_is_my with_them YHWH he_says my_breath/wind/spirit which is_on_you and_words/messages_of_my which I_have_put in_mouth_of_your not they_will_depart from_mouth_of_your and_from_the_mouth_of your(ms)_seed/fruit and_from_the_mouth_of the_offspring_of your(ms)_seed/fruit YHWH he_says from_now and_unto perpetuity.
