Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
(Occurrence 0) Two or three cities staggered
(Some words not found in UHB: and,wandered two three cities to/towards (a)_city one(fs) to,drink waters and=not satisfied and=not return to,me declares_of YHWH )
Here “cities” represents the people of those cities. Alternate translation: “The people of two or three cities staggered”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
(Occurrence 0) you have not returned to me
(Some words not found in UHB: and,wandered two three cities to/towards (a)_city one(fs) to,drink waters and=not satisfied and=not return to,me declares_of YHWH )
Returning to God represents submitting again to him. See how you translated this in [Amos 4:6](../04/06.md). Alternate translation: “you have not submitted again to me”
4:6-11 God sent natural disasters to bring his people to repentance, but each time they failed to respond in any sincere manner. Amos ends the account of each disaster with the refrain, “But still you would not return to me,” says the Lord.
OET (OET-LV) And_wandered two three cities to a_city one to_ water _drink and_not they_were_satisfied and_not you_all_returned to_me the_utterance_of YHWH.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
