1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I am thankful to God, whom I serve from my forefathers with a pure conscience, as I have the remembrance of you unceasingly in my prayers, night and day, 4 longing to see you, recalling your tears, so that I may be filled with joy, 5 having taken remembrance of the sincere faith within you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that it is in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle anew the gift of God, which is in you by the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of self-control. 8 Therefore you should not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, His prisoner; but suffer together for the gospel, according to the power of God, 9 the One having saved us and having called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, having been given us in Christ Jesus before time eternal, 10 and now having been made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, having abolished death and having brought to light life and immortality through the gospel, 11 to which I was appointed a herald, and an apostle, and a teacher. 12 For this reason I also suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able to guard my deposit entrusted for that day. 13 Retain the pattern of sound words, which you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 Keep the good deposit entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit, the One dwelling in us. 15 You know this, that all those in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he refreshed me often, and he was not ashamed of my chain. 17 But having arrived in Rome, he earnestly sought me out and found me. 18 May the Lord grant unto him to find mercy from the Lord in that day! And you know very well how much he served in Ephesus. 2 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be competent to teach others also. 3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier entangles himself in the affairs of this life, that he might please the one having enlisted him. 5 Now also, if anyone competes, he is not crowned unless he shall have competed lawfully. 6 It is necessary for the hardworking farmer first to partake of the fruits. 7 Consider the things I am saying, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, having been raised out from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel, 9 in which I suffer hardship even to chains as an evildoer. But the word of God is not bound! 10 Because of this, I endure all things for the sake of the elect, so that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 Trustworthy is the saying: For if we have died together with Him, we will also live together with Him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign together with Him; if we will deny Him, He also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He is not able to deny Himself. 14 Remind them these things, solemnly charging them before God not to quarrel about words, for nothing profitable but to the subversion of those hearing. 15 Hasten to present yourself approved to God, a workman not ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid worldly, empty babblings, for they will lead on to more ungodliness, 17 and their talk will have pasture to grow like gangrene, among whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have gone astray concerning the truth, asserting the resurrection already to have taken place; and they are overthrowing the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those being His," and, "Let everyone naming the name of the Lord depart from iniquity." 20 Now in a great house, there are not only golden and silver vessels, but also wooden and earthen; and some indeed unto honor, but some unto dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone shall have cleansed himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, having been sanctified, useful to the Master, having been prepared for every good work. 22 Now flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those calling on the Lord out of pure a heart. 23 And refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they breed quarrels. 24 And it behooves the bond-servant of the Lord not to quarrel, but to be gentle toward all, able to teach, forbearing, 25 in gentleness disciplining those opposing, lest ever God may give them repentance unto a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they might come to their senses out of the snare of the devil, having been captured by him for his will. 3 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will be present. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boasters, proud, verbally abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, savage, haters of good, 4 betrayers, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And turn away from these. 6 For out of this sort are those entering into households and taking captive weak women, burdened with sins, being led away by various passions, 7 always learning and never being able to come to a knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these oppose the truth, men being depraved in mind, disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not advance much further, for their folly will be plain to all, as also that of those two became. 10 But you have closely followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings such as happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what manner of persecutions I endured! And yet the Lord delivered me out of all. 12 And all also desiring to live piously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 But evil men and imposters will advance to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you, abide in the things you have learned and have been assured of, having known from whom you learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings, being able to make you wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, having been fully equipped toward every good work. 4 I earnestly declare before God and Christ Jesus, the One being about to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; convict, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and instruction. 3 For there will be a time when they will not endure sound teaching, but according to the own desires, having an itching ear, they will gather around them teachers to suit themselves, 4 and indeed they will turn away from hearing the truth, and will be turned aside unto myths. 5 But you, be sober in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fully carry out your ministry. 6 For already I am being poured out, and the time of my departure is come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 From now on the crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me in that day; but not only to me, but also to all those loving His appearing. 9 Be diligent to come to me quickly, 10 for Demas has deserted me, having loved the present age, and he has gone to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Luke alone is with me. Having taken Mark, bring him with you, for he is useful to me for the ministry. 12 But I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13 Upon coming, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus in Troas, and the books, especially the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did great harm to me. The Lord will render to him according to his deeds, 15 whom you also beware of, for exceedingly he has opposed our message. 16 In my first defense, no one has stood with me, but all deserted me. May it be not charged to them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation would be fully accomplished, and all the Gentiles should hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18 The Lord will deliver me from every evil deed and will bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom, to whom is the glory unto the ages of the ages. Amen. 19 Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the house of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained in Corinth, but Trophimus I left ailing in Miletus. 21 Be earnest to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brothers. 22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you all.
