Song 6/A prayer in time of distress

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Readers’ Version

Literal Version

6:0 A prayer in time of distress

A song by David for the singing director to be accompanied by the eight-stringed instrument.

6Yahweh, don’t rebuke me in your anger,[ref]

≈ or discipline me in your rage.

2Be gracious to me, Yahweh, because I’m frail.

≈ Heal me, Yahweh, because my bones are aching.

3I’m emotionally distressed.

How much longer, Yahweh?

4Turn around, Yahweh, and save my life

to demonstrate your loyal commitment.

5Once we’re dead we can’t honour you.

Who will give thanks to you from Sheol?

6I’m worn out from groaning.

Every night I make my bed swim with my tears.

I melt away on my couch.

7I can barely open my eyes because of my grief.

My enemies make me weak with grief.

8Keep away from me, all you who do evil things,[ref]

because Yahweh has heard the sound of my weeping.

9Yahweh has heard my requests—

≈ Yahweh will answer my prayer.

10Let my enemies be shamed and severely dismayed.

Let them retreat and feel ashamed for a while.
