Song 36/Wicked people and Yahweh’s goodness

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Readers’ Version

Literal Version

36:0 Wicked people and Yahweh’s goodness

For the musical director: a song by Yahweh’s servant David.

36My heart struggles with the disobedience of evil people.

They see no need to worry about God

2because they comfort themselves

thinking that their sin won’t be discovered and be hated.

3Their words are sinful and deceitful.

They don’t want to be wise and do good.

4They plot wicked things even when they’re lying in bed.

≈ They decide on a path that’s no good—not rejecting evil.

5Your loyal commitment, Yahweh, reaches to the heavens.

≈ Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

6Your righteousness is like the highest[fn] mountains.

≈ Your judgements are like the deepest ocean.

Yahweh, you preserve both people and animals.

7God, your loyal commitment is so valuable.

You protect us like birds protect their babies under their wings.

8They feast from the plentiful provisions in your creation.

You let them drink the sweet water from your river.

9We see light in your light

because you are the fountain of life.

10Fully show your loyal commitment to those who know you.

≈ Extend your defence to those who are godly.

11Don’t let arrogant people approach me.

Don’t let the action of wicked people drive me away.

12The wicked people have fallen down over there.

They’ve been knocked down and aren’t able to get up.

36:6 Literally ‘God’s’.
