Songs 4/A night-time prayer

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Readers’ Version

Literal Version

4:0 A night-time prayer

4 For the musical director: a song by David to be accompanied by stringed instruments.

4God of my righteousness, answer me when I call out.

Show me how to escape from distress.

Be gracious to me and listen to my prayer.

2How long will you mortal people keep shaming me instead of honouring me?

Why do you all love meaninglessness and enjoy dishonesty? (Instrumental break.)

3But be aware that Yahweh has treats people who are faithful to him as special to him.

Yahweh pays attention when I call out to him for help.

4Respect Yahweh and don’t sin.[ref]

Meditate silently on your bed. (Instrumental break.)

5Sacrifice to him by obeying him,

and keep trusting him.

6Many people ask, “Who can show us anything that’s good?”

Yahweh, shower your favour down on us.

7You’ve made me very happy,

even more so than when there’s plenty of fine and wine.

8I can lie down and sleep in peace,

because you, Yahweh, and only you, let me life in safety.
