Literal Version

64:0 Trusting God for protection

64 For the musical director: a song by David.

64Hear my voice of complaint, God.

Save my from my enemies that I fear.

2Protect me from the secret plots of wicked people—

from the scheming of those who do evil.

3They have sharpened their tongues like swords.

They have targeted their bitter words like aiming arrows

4to shoot at innocent people from their ambush

they shoot suddenly and don’t fear any consequences.

5They encourage each other with their wicked plans.

They talk about secretly laying their traps,

asking who will notice them.

6They plot crimes, conceiving the ‘perfect plan’.

Humankind’s inner thoughts and desires run deep.

7But God will shoot them—

suddenly they’ll be wounded by arrows.

8Their own tongues will bring them to ruin.

Everyone who sees them will just shake their heads.

9All of humankind will fear God

and talk about what he’s done.

Yes, they’ll ponder what happened.

10Those who do what is right will be glad about Yahweh

and take shelter in him.

Every godly person will praise him.
