136:0 A song of thankfulness

136Give thanks to Yahweh, because he’s good,[ref]

because his loyal affection continues forever.

2Give thanks to the God of gods,

because his loyal affection continues forever.

3Give thanks to the master of masters,

because his loyal affection continues forever.

4Thank him—the only one who goes great miracles—

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

5Thank him who used his wisdom to make the universe,[ref]

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

6Thank him who spread the earth out over the waters,[ref]

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

7Thank him who made the great lights,[ref]

because his loyal commitment continues forever:

8the sun to rule over the day,

because his loyal commitment continues forever,

9the moon and stars to rule over the night,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

10Thank him who struck Egypt’s firstborn males,[ref]

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

11He led Israel out from among the Egyptians,[ref]

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

12He led them with his powerful hand and outstretched arm,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

13Thank him who divided the Red Sea in two,[ref]

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

14Then he made Yisrael go through the middle of that sea,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

15Then he threw Far-oh and his army down into the Red Sea,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

16Thank him who led his people through the wilderness,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

17Thank him who struck down great kings,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

18Thank him who killed powerful kings,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

19Thank him who killed the Amorite King Sihon,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

20Thank him who killed King Og from Bashan,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

21Thank him who gave them the land as their inheritance,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

22Thank him who gave an inheritance to his servant Yisra’el,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

23Thank him who remembered us when we felt so low,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

24Then he rescued us from those who set themselves against us,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

25Thank him who gives food to all living creatures,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.

26Yes, give thanks to the God of the heavens,

because his loyal commitment continues forever.
