OET (OET-LV)thus YHWH he_says though complete and_thus/so/as_follows numerous and_thus/so/as_follows they_will_be_cut_off and_pass_away and_afflicted_you not afflict_you again.

OET (OET-RV)This is what Yahweh says:
⇔ Even though the Assyrians are numerous and well equipped.
⇔ they’ll be destroyed anyway and will be no more.
⇔ Although I’ve afflicted you my people,
 ⇔ I won’t afflict you any more.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

שְׁלֵמִים֙

full

The pronoun they refers to the Ninevites. If this is not clear for your readers, you could use the people’s name here. Alternate translation: [the Ninevites are full]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

שְׁלֵמִים֙

full

The implication is that they are full in strength. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [they are at full strength]

Note 3 topic: translate-tense

נָגֹ֖זּוּ וְעָבָ֑ר

cut_off and,pass_away

The author uses the past tense here in order to refer to something that will certainly happen in the future. If it would not be natural to do that in your language, you could use the future tense. Alternate translation: [they will be sheared, and he will pass away]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

נָגֹ֖זּוּ

cut_off

The implication is that they are sheared like sheep. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [they have been sheared like sheep]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

נָגֹ֖זּוּ

cut_off

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who did the action, it is clear from the context that it was God. Alternate translation: [God has sheared them]

Note 6 topic: writing-pronouns

וְעָבָ֑ר

and,pass_away

In this verse, the word he refers to the “plotter of evil” in verse 10. It is probable, however, that this person represents the many plotters of evil in Nineveh, and so he here refers to all of them as a group. If it would be helpful in your language, you could say this plainly. Alternate translation: [and those plotters have passed away]

Note 7 topic: writing-pronouns

וְעִ֨נִּתִ֔ךְ

and,afflicted,you

The pronoun you refers to the people of Judah. If this is not clear for your readers, you could use the nation’s name here. Alternate translation: [Though I have afflicted you, Judah]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

1:12 The Assyrians’ allies were vassal or subordinate kingdoms, including once-powerful Egypt. Ironically, a coalition of former allies gradually brought down the great Neo-Assyrian Empire between 625 and 605 BC.
• O my people refers to Judah, whom God had punished earlier when the Assyrian king Sennacherib (704–681 BC) launched a campaign (701 BC) against the western states of the Near East. While Sennacherib failed to take Jerusalem (2 Kgs 19:32-36), he boasted in his annals of carrying away Jerusalem’s tribute and an enormous amount of spoils from forty-six cities in Judah. Although Judah was now reduced to vassalage and faced the constant possibility of Assyrian aggression, Assyria did not defeat the southern kingdom. Babylon did so, however, in 586 BC. Sadly, neither Israel nor Judah heeded God’s repeated warnings that failure to repent would result in judgment (Hos 11:5; Joel 2:1-27).

OET (OET-LV)thus YHWH he_says though complete and_thus/so/as_follows numerous and_thus/so/as_follows they_will_be_cut_off and_pass_away and_afflicted_you not afflict_you again.

OET (OET-RV)This is what Yahweh says:

⇔ they’ll be destroyed anyway and will be no more.
⇔ Although I’ve afflicted you my people,
 ⇔ I won’t afflict you any more.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
