OET (OET-LV) I_will_arise please and_go_about in/on/at/with_city in/on/at/with_streets and_in/on/at/with_squares I_will_seek DOM whom_loves soul_of_my sought_him and_not find_him.
OET (OET-RV) I’ll get up now and go about in the city—
⇔ in the streets and in the squares.
⇔ I will search for the man who my soul loves.
⇔ I looked for him, but I didn’t find him.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
אָק֨וּמָה נָּ֜א
arise now
The writer assumes that the reader will understand that the woman is thinking or saying this to herself. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [I thought to myself, ‘I will get up now’]
וַאֲסוֹבְבָ֣ה בָעִ֗יר
and,go_about in/on/at/with,city
Alternate translation: [and walk through the city]
Note 2 topic: translate-unknown
וּבָ֣רְחֹב֔וֹת
and,in/on/at/with,squares
The word squares refers to spacious open places where people gather to sell things and conduct business and legal matters. If your readers would not be familiar with this type of place, you could use the name of something similar in your area, or you could use a more general term. Alternate translation: [and in the open plazas] or [and in the wide-open places]
אֲבַקְשָׁ֕ה & בִּקַּשְׁתִּ֖יו
seek & sought,him
Alternate translation: [I will look for … I looked for him]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche
אֵ֥ת שֶׁאָהֲבָ֖ה נַפְשִׁ֑י
DOM whom,loves soul_of,my
See how you translated the similar phrase “you whom my soul loves” in [1:7](../01/07.md). Alternate translation: [him whom I love]
3:2 The poem is partly about a lover’s being willing and able to overcome all obstacles in order to be with the beloved.
• Since the women of Jerusalem are mentioned frequently (3:5), the city is probably Jerusalem. Searching in all its streets and squares was an ambitious effort.
• The king of Israel would probably not be outside in the city at night, and if he had his sixty-man entourage with him (3:7-8), she would find him easily. Rather, the woman appears to be looking for a common man in common places.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
