OET (OET-LV) And_you(ms) go to_end and_you_will_rest and_you_will_arise to_your_allotted_of_portion to_the_end_of the_days.
OET (OET-RV) But as for you, carry on with your life until the end. Then you’ll be able to relax and receive your allocated inheritance at the end of the days.”
In this long final vision, Daniel was told of events leading up to the end of the age.
In this paragraph the angelic figure encouraged Daniel to persevere. He promised that at the end of time God will resurrect and reward those who persevere in righteousness.
But as for you, go on your way until the end.
As for you, go your way till the end.
And you, Daniel, be faithful until the end of your life.
But as for you, go on your way until the end: There is a textual problem here. Some Hebrew manuscripts do not contain the words until the end and therefore some English versions omit them. The two options are:
The original text contained the words until the end. For example:
So, Daniel, be faithful until the end! (CEV)
But you should go your way until the end. (NET) (BSB, NIV, NET, CEV, KJV, NASB, RSV, ESV, REB, GW, GNT, NLT, NCV)
The original text did not contain the words until the end. For example:
But you, go your way (NRSV) (NRSV, NJB, NABRE)
It is recommended that you include the words until the end, along with the majority of English versions. This probably means “until the end of your life.”
You will rest,
You are going to lie down and rest,
You will die,
You will rest: This is a euphemism, a figure of speech referring to death. Use the expression that is most natural in your language. For example:
You will sleep
You will lie down
Then you will die (GNT)
and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”
but at the end of all things/history you will rise/live again to receive what God has/wants to give you.”
but at the end of time, you will rise from the dead and receive your reward.”
and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days: The angel promised Daniel that at the end of the days he would be given resurrection to new life and reward from God. Here are some other ways to translate this:
and at the end you will rise to receive your reward (NCV)
and at the end of time, you will rise from death to receive your reward (CEV)
and then at the end of the days, you will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for you (NLT)
will arise: In this context the verb phrase will arise is a promise that Daniel will come alive again after his death, a promise of resurrection.
your inheritance: The Hebrew word that the BSB translates as your inheritance refers to a share or portion that is inherited from someone or given by someone. In this case God is the one who gives the share or portion. He will give Daniel this share or portion when he raises him from the dead at the end of human history.
at the end of the days: The phrase at the end of the days refers to the end of history, the end of this earth as we know it. It does not have the same meaning as “the end” in 12:13a, which refers to the end of Daniel’s life.
לֵ֣ךְ
go_~_way
This refers to Daniel continuing to live and serve the kings until the appointed time of his death. Alternate translation: “Daniel, you must continue your life”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism
וְתָנ֛וּחַ
and,you_will_rest
This is a gentle way of saying “you will die.”
וְתַעֲמֹ֥ד
and,you_will_arise
This is referring to the first resurrection of the dead when the righteous people will be raised up.
לְגֹרָלְךָ֖
to,your_allotted_of,portion
Alternate translation: “for the place God has assigned to you”
12:13 Daniel died before the final end, but he knew that he would rise again! Here, the end refers to that time when even the dead rise (12:1-3) and the everlasting Kingdom of God Most High is established.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
