OET (OET-LV)And_disgraced[fn] the_seers and_put_to_shame the_diviners and_cover over a_moustache all_of_their if/because there_will_not_be an_answer_of god.

3:7 OSHB note: We read one or more accents in L differently from BHQ.

OET (OET-RV)The tellers of the future will be put to shame,
⇔ and the diviners will be disgraced.
⇔ They will cover their lips, all of them,
⇔ because there’ll be no answer from God.”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

(Occurrence 0) The seers will be put to shame, and the diviners will be confused

(Some words not found in UHB: and,disgraced the,seers and,put_to_shame the,diviners and,cover on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in lips all_of,their that/for/because/then/when not answer_of ʼElohīm )

This can be translated in active form. Alternate translation: “I will cause the seers to be ashamed, and I will confuse the diviners”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) All of them will cover their lips

(Some words not found in UHB: and,disgraced the,seers and,put_to_shame the,diviners and,cover on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in lips all_of,their that/for/because/then/when not answer_of ʼElohīm )

Here “lips” represents speaking. Alternate translation: “They shall no longer speak”

(Occurrence 0) there is no answer from me

(Some words not found in UHB: and,disgraced the,seers and,put_to_shame the,diviners and,cover on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in lips all_of,their that/for/because/then/when not answer_of ʼElohīm )

Alternate translation: “I will be silent”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

3:6-7 Micah announced God’s judgment on the false prophets. Without God’s special communications, these seers and fortune-tellers were like the pagan court prophets of such nations as Babylon, Mari, and especially Assyria, who were expected to toe the party line but who had no real revelation from the Lord (cp. 1 Sam 28:6; Amos 8:11-12).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
