OET (OET-LV)the_master is_ not _slowing of_his promise, as some are_considering slowness, but he_is_being_patient toward you_all, not wishing any to_perish, but all to to_accept repentance.

OET (OET-RV)The master isn’t slow in fulfilling his promise as some consider slowness, but is patient toward you—not wanting anyone to perish but rather wanting everyone to come to repentance.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

οὐ βραδύνει Κύριος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὒ βραδύνει Κύριος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας ὡς τινές βραδύτητα ἡγοῦνται ἀλλά μακροθυμεῖ εἰς ὑμᾶς μή βουλόμενος τινάς ἀπολέσθαι ἀλλά πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι)

Here, promise refers to the fulfillment of the promise that Jesus will return. See how you translated it in [3:4](../03/04.md). Alternate translation: [The Lord does not delay to fulfill his promise]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ὥς τινες βραδύτητα ἡγοῦνται

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὒ βραδύνει Κύριος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας ὡς τινές βραδύτητα ἡγοῦνται ἀλλά μακροθυμεῖ εἰς ὑμᾶς μή βουλόμενος τινάς ἀπολέσθαι ἀλλά πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι)

Here, some refers to the “mockers” introduced in [3:3](../03/03.md) and anyone else who believed that the Lord is slow to fulfill his promises, because Jesus had not yet returned. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this explicitly. Alternate translation: [as some, such as these mockers, consider slowness]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

ἀλλὰ μακροθυμεῖ εἰς ὑμᾶς

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὒ βραδύνει Κύριος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας ὡς τινές βραδύτητα ἡγοῦνται ἀλλά μακροθυμεῖ εἰς ὑμᾶς μή βουλόμενος τινάς ἀπολέσθαι ἀλλά πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι)

Peter is leaving out a word that this clause would need in many languages in order to be complete. This word can be supplied from the beginning of the verse. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state explicitly who is the one being patient and begin a new sentence. Alternate translation: [But God is patient toward you]

Note 4 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

μὴ βουλόμενός τινας ἀπολέσθαι

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὒ βραδύνει Κύριος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας ὡς τινές βραδύτητα ἡγοῦνται ἀλλά μακροθυμεῖ εἰς ὑμᾶς μή βουλόμενος τινάς ἀπολέσθαι ἀλλά πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι)

This clause indicates the reason why God is delaying the return of Jesus. Alternate translation: [because he does not want any to perish]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

ἀλλὰ πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὒ βραδύνει Κύριος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας ὡς τινές βραδύτητα ἡγοῦνται ἀλλά μακροθυμεῖ εἰς ὑμᾶς μή βουλόμενος τινάς ἀπολέσθαι ἀλλά πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι)

Peter is leaving out words that this clause would need in many languages in order to be complete. These words can be supplied from the previous clause. Alternate translation: [but he wants all to move on to repentance]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

ἀλλὰ πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὒ βραδύνει Κύριος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας ὡς τινές βραδύτητα ἡγοῦνται ἀλλά μακροθυμεῖ εἰς ὑμᾶς μή βουλόμενος τινάς ἀπολέσθαι ἀλλά πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι)

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the idea behind the abstract noun repentance with a verbal phrase. Alternate translation: [but all to repent]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

3:1-13 Peter shifts from denunciation of false teachers to exhortation of believers. The false teachers’ skepticism about Christ’s return required clear teaching. Christians need to hold onto the apostolic message about the day of judgment and live godly lives in anticipation of that day.

OET (OET-RV)The master isn’t slow in fulfilling his promise as some consider slowness, but is patient toward you—not wanting anyone to perish but rather wanting everyone to come to repentance.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
