OET (OET-LV)And be_considering the patience of_the master of_us, salvation, as also the beloved of_us brother Paulos, according_to the wisdom having_been_given to_him, wrote to_you_all,

OET (OET-RV) And consider the patience of our Lord as leading to salvation as our dear brother Paul wrote to you using the wisdom that has been given to him.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τὴν τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν μακροθυμίαν, σωτηρίαν ἡγεῖσθε

the ˱of˲_the Lord ˱of˲_us patience salvation /be/_considering

Because the Lord is patient, the day of judgment has not yet happened. This gives people an opportunity to repent and be saved, as Peter explained in 3:9. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this explicitly. Alternate translation: “consider the patience of our Lord as an opportunity to repent and be saved”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

τὴν τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν μακροθυμίαν, σωτηρίαν ἡγεῖσθε

the ˱of˲_the Lord ˱of˲_us patience salvation /be/_considering

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the abstract nouns patience and salvation by translating the ideas behind them with equivalent expressions. Alternate translation: “that our Lord is patient to save people”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

σωτηρίαν

salvation

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the abstract noun salvation by translating the idea behind it with an equivalent expression. Alternate translation: “to save people”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ὁ ἀγαπητὸς ἡμῶν ἀδελφὸς Παῦλος

¬the beloved ˱of˲_us brother Paul

Peter is using the term brother to refer to Paul as a fellow believer in Jesus. Alternate translation: “our beloved fellow Christian brother Paul”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

κατὰ τὴν δοθεῖσαν αὐτῷ σοφίαν

according_to the /having_been/_given ˱to˲_him wisdom

If your language does not use this passive form, you can state this in active form and you can state who did the action. Alternate translation: “according to the wisdom that God gave to him”

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

κατὰ τὴν δοθεῖσαν αὐτῷ σοφίαν

according_to the /having_been/_given ˱to˲_him wisdom

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the abstract noun wisdom by translating the idea behind it with an adjective, such as “wise.” Alternate translation: “according to the wise words having been given to him”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

3:15 our beloved brother Paul: The New Testament tells us little about the relationship between Peter and Paul. Because of the dispute in Antioch (Gal 2:11-14), it is sometimes thought that the two were hostile to one another, but the New Testament paints a different picture. Peter and Paul essentially agreed about the Good News for the Gentiles (Acts 11:2-18; 15:7-11). Silas and Mark were associates of both Paul and Peter (see 1 Pet 5:12-13). According to tradition, both apostles were martyred in Rome during the same persecution by Nero in the mid-60s AD.
