John records Jesus continuing the bread metaphor to refer to himself. In Jesus’ culture, bread was the primary food people ate to stay alive. Just as bread is necessary for sustaining physical life, Jesus is necessary for giving spiritual life. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this explicitly or with a simile.
