OET (OET-LV) About_it to_children_of_your_all’s recount and_children_of_your_all’s to_children_of_their and_children_of_their to_generation another.
OET (OET-RV) Tell your children about it,
⇔ and your children to their children,
⇔ and their children to the following generation.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
וּבְנֵיכֶם֙ לִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם לְד֥וֹר אַחֵֽר
and,children_of,your_all's to,children_of,their and,children_of,their to,generation next/another
Joel is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need to be complete. You could supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [and let your sons recount about it to their sons, and let their sons recount about it to the generation after]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations
לִבְנֵיכֶ֣ם & וּבְנֵיכֶם֙ לִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם
to,children_of,your_all's & and,children_of,your_all's to,children_of,their and,children_of,their
Here the masculine term sons has a generic sense that includes both male and female children. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both men and women. Alternate translation: [to your children, and your children to their children, and their children]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular
עָלֶ֖יהָ לִבְנֵיכֶ֣ם סַפֵּ֑רוּ וּבְנֵיכֶם֙
about,it to,children_of,your_all's tell and,children_of,your_all's
The imperative Recount and the word your are plural here because Joel is addressing the “elders” and “dwellers” mentioned in the previous verse. So use plural forms in your translation if your language marks that distinction.
1:3 God’s people would tell future generations about what was taking place so that their descendants would benefit from the lessons they had learned (cp. Deut 4:9; 6:20-25).
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
