Section 3:1–6: Haman became angry with Mordecai

The next event in the story was that the king promoted one of his officials called Haman to the highest position in the land, next to the king himself. The king ordered all his servants to bow down to Haman in respect to him, but Mordecai refused to do this because he was a Jew. When Haman heard about this, he was angry and planned to destroy all the Jews in the empire. He cast lots to find out the best day to choose for killing the Jews.

When Haman saw that Mordecai would not bow down or pay him homage, he was filled with rage.

When Haman saw that Mordecai refused to kneel or bow his head to the ground to show him respect, he became very angry.

וַ⁠יַּ֣רְא הָמָ֔ן

and=he/it_saw Haman

Here, seeing means knowledge, notice, attention, or judgment. This phrase means that Haman learned about this.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

אֵ֣ין מָרְדֳּכַ֔י כֹּרֵ֥עַ וּ⁠מִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖ה ל֑⁠וֹ

not Mārəddəkay bow_down and,bowing_down to=him/it

These two phrases mean basically the same thing. The repetition is used to emphasize how serious an offense this was. You could combine them as UST does and say, “Mordecai was refusing to bow down to him.” Alternate translation: [Mordecai would not bow down or lie on the ground]

Here, Haman’s rage is spoken of as something that could fill him up. You could say that he was furious or extremely angry.
