OET (OET-LV)And_ ʼEştēr _she_answered and_she/it_said petition_of_my and_request_of_my.

OET (OET-RV)“This is what I really want.” Esther replied.

SIL Open Translator’s Notes:

Section 5:1–8: Esther went to talk to the king

After Esther had finished fasting, she went to the inner rooms of the palace. The king was pleased to see her and promised to grant any request she might make. So she asked that the king and Haman should come and eat a special meal that she would get her servants to prepare for them. The king agreed.

5:7

Esther replied, “This is my petition and my request:

This is my petition and my request: As mentioned in the note on 5:6b, these words mean the same thing.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys

וַתַּ֥עַן & וַתֹּאמַ֑ר

and,she_answered & and=she/it_said

Here a single idea is being expressed by using two words connected with “and.” Together the two words mean that Esther responded to the question that the king asked her. Alternate translation: [answered] or [replied]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet

שְׁאֵלָתִ֖י וּבַקָּשָׁתִֽי

petition_of,my and,request_of,my

The words petition and request mean the same thing. Esther probably used these words together as a way of speaking very formally and respectfully to the king. Alternate translation: [this is what I want]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

שְׁאֵלָתִ֖י וּבַקָּשָׁתִֽי

petition_of,my and,request_of,my

The two abstract nouns petition and request can be expressed with a single phrase using the verb “want.” Alternate translation: [this is what I want]
